If I apply for a marriage visa in UK (London) how much money do I need to have in the bank and also how long is the visa valid for. I have checked the Thai Embassy web-site and couldn't find the answer....

The is no "marriage" visa. What you apply for, if you have a Thai wife, is a non immigrant O visa and that can be single entry (easy) or multi entry valid for one year (not so easy). What is normally required is your marriage certificate/copy and copy of wife ID card or Passport. Some local consulates have also asked for home register copy and even a letter from wife inviting you as extra insurance the relationship is valid. There is no requirement for money. That comes at immigration when you extend your stay one year at a time on the basis of support Thai wife.

Thanks for the info Lopburi3 - not sure why this wasn't so clear on the Thai Embassy web-site :o

You say a one year multiple entry is not so easy to get......this is a shame as this would be exactly what I would want!

If I do apply for the non-O, it would be in the UK and at that time my wife would be there as well as my daughter.....would this be of any help?

LopBuri is right if you are a single male and want a multi-entry from 1st October - very difficult.

I am married to a Thai and now live in Thailand. When I was in the UK with my wife - 3 years ago it was now - I applied for a multi-entry 1 year at Birmingham and got it without any problems, because my criteria was that I was married to a Thai.

Assuming you are married to a Thai with a wedding certificate from the UK or here in Thailand, you still might be able to get one I would have thought, despite these recent visa changes. Phone up Birmingham and ask for a form or get a form online? and send it off and see what happens.

It will only take a couple of weeks to process and if they say no you will still have time to get a single entry I would have thought.

Mind you, even though I had a multi-entry I recall that I started the process of the marriage visa extension within about 6 weeks of arriving in Thailand. So the multi entry was actually a waste of time( for me anyway) as it was in effect cancelled when I started the marriage extension process.

Immigration gave me a stamp to come back in 30 days time and then when that expired a stamp for another 30 days. At the end of the second 30 day stamp they granted me my extension for marriage.

I then got a multiple-rentry permit for the rest of the year. You would be able to do the same - get your marriage extension and then a multi-reentry permit to allow you to come and go as you please (subject to 90 day reporting that is!).

good luck
