Driver Help

My company just bought me a new laptop.

It was purchased in Russia and hence had a Russian language XP, so my company bought a brand new version of XP (english) for me to install.

The laptop was delievered to me 10 minutes before I boarded a train for a very remote location.

Anyway, they forget to give me the driver disk.

I can live without sound (I have tried to download a few sound drivers but none seems to work) but the biggest problem is the monitor driver.

The screen is not your normal 4:3 or whatever, it is the stretched version for watching movies.

I believe the correct driver would stop everything being stretched right? Like everything is shorter and fatter than normal.

The screen is an ATI Mobility Express 200M 15.4" WXGA Crystalbrite LCD.

Any ideas on how I can fix this? perhaps someone knows what driver (and location) that I can download? I have been through the settings but there are no options to change the screen parameters.

I have searched the net but most of the sites that will let you download drivers are blocked as we are not at full bandwidth yet.

Thanks in advance.

The best place to get the display drivers is from the notebook manufacturer's website, they'll probably have the sound drivers too.

Unfortunately when downloading the drivers from the manu site, both tell me the file is empty.

FYI the laptop is an Acer Aspire 5040

to get an ATI driver that works with ALL ATI cards, get the one from Omegadrivers, works great with laptop chipsets.

Good luck.

Thanks Jdietz, unfortunately that is one of the sites that have been blocked due to bandwidth constraints. :o

I will only be here for another couple of weeks so worse comes to worse I can live with circles looking like ovals, but it sure would be good if everything was normal.

I assume you mean Acer Aspire 5040

Here are the download links which are provided by the Acer site:

VGA driver (23Mb):

https://www.synapsenow.com/synapse/data/711.../AS5040_VGA.zip

Audio driver(90Mb):

https://www.synapsenow.com/synapse/data/711...S5040_Audio.zip

I have no idea why they are so large, ridiculous really, if you have a bandwidth issue then you may find this difficult.

Downloaded the 90MB job - it is ridiculous. It's got the .Net Framework in there for some reason (20MB) and a bag full of other drivers.

Stripped it down to just the Win2K/XP ATI drivers and it's 13MB zipped. PM me if you think you can download it Tuky, but can't guarantee it'll work as I haven't got the card to test it with.
