Trump: Paris attack would have been different with more guns

BEAUMONT, Texas (AP) — Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump says the terror attacks in Paris would have been "a much, much different situation" had the victims been armed with guns.

And he says the United States is "insane" to accept any refugees from Syria in the wake of the attacks.

Trump spoke Saturday at a rally in Beaumont, Texas.

He began the event with a moment of silence in honor of the victims of the attacks.

French officials say more than 120 people are dead and hundreds more injured after the series of coordinated bombings and shootings.

Trump also criticized President Barack Obama's handling of the Islamic State group, saying that the U.S. should be more aggressive in its approach.

He has been calling for the U.S. to destroy oil fields the group controls.

I wonder how many more deaths there would have been from 'friendly fire' had there been panicked untrained civilians firing at anything that moved?

Everyone being armed is quite obviously the way to go, a country where there is a mass-shooing almost everyday of the year is obviously the model to follow.

All those mass shooting victims far surpass the death tally by terrorists in Europe. Typical (for some) American reasoning.

I'm rapidly coming to the conclusion that Donald Trump has been on a special course.

Nobody could be so stupid naturally!

In response to these events we had the privilege to receive many sensitive and fine reactions of our friends everywhere in the world. Here especially.

Unfortunately we must also hear the shouts of D. Trump ...

So I suppose arming everyone in France, besides the millions of muslims there, is what he means.

Yup, easily arming such a hotbed of volatile, disillusioned young men would bring more peace to the area and stop such things from happening again.

When there's a bombing we blame the bomber. When there's a drunk-driving accident we blame the driver. But when there's a shooting we blame the gun. Nice logic. The next time an armed thug enters your house with the intent on robbing and killing your family, protect your family by telling him you feel his pain and singing Kumbaya to him. That should work.

The military training I received years ago taught me about weapons. Most folks don't have any sort of training and this idiotic notion of everyone "packing heat" is dangerous. And of course if you say "Get some training before obtaining a firearm." you are accused of wanting to take away people's guns. The notion of armed citizens taking on terrorists, while romantic, is nonsense.

Of course European liberals go into mocking mode at any suggestion of how to combat the mess their own immigration policies have caused. The reality is that European citizens are rapidly arming themselves. Look at spiraling gun sales in Denmark and Sweden. If the authorities can't protect the public vigilantes and private militias will quickly do so.

Incidentally to get a Swedish gun license means you have to join a shooting club and be trained how to use it, so the notion that people just buy guns over the counter does not reflect reality.

Believe or not......Many well informed people in the US are saying that TRUMP may have a chance to be the next US President.

If that really happens....I will start believing in bad Karma........after all the wrong doing by the US Government in the past 50 years.

There no easy solution, knee jerk reactions usually end up with citizens losing their rights, just start sending them to Islamic countries, they will be right at home.

After visiting his Atlantic City Empire back in the 80/90's a few times i used to admire this Guy for his business acumen and creativity. Such a shame he has lost the plot and become a complete nutter !

Yeah, VERY good point, and not only that, Trump (and his supporters and those that agree with him on this OP), is typical right-wing look-no-further-than-the-end-of-your-nose idiocy: If the civilians had been armed, the attackers would have been better armed and more ruthless.

What do the Americans and Russians do when their enemy is armed? They use stealth and overwhelming fire-power. Why would the terrorists be any different?

If France was an armed country, the death toll would have been worse.

USA 2013, firearms were used in:

84,258 nonfatal injuries

11,208 deaths by homicide

21,175 by suicide with a firearm,

505 deaths due to accidental discharge of a firearm

for a total of 33,169 deaths related to firearms.

Firstly you're comparing apples and oranges since the first 2 things in your failed analogy are intrisicly illegal acts whereas gun ownership is legal. Secondly, when is the last time an armed thug entered your house with the intent of robbing you and killing your family?

France has around 650 murders per year (well, this year it will probably be more), USA have around 12 000. Per capita it's about 4 times higher.

I wonder how many got saved by the 2nd amendment in US daily mass shootings this year, and how many got killed because of it... not sure it balances much.

Yet another one using the Paris attacks for his own political agenda. This time it's the right to bear arms. Mass killings is a normal occurrence back in the states because of it.

No thanks.

Yeah, France needs people bringing hand guns to a rock concert. whistling.gif

What a Death Metal concert really really needs is for everyone to bring an assault rifle. The gun apologists will insist that this can only improve survival rates.

In fact if every citizen of France owned a personal assault rifle, it would be totally impossible for any Islamic fundamentalist "refugee" to steal one and shoot a passing Jew in the street.

It would have been different with less guns, too.

Yes about 8 less would have done the trick.

Donald Trump needs to realise that sometimes there is the occasion for political rhetoric and sometimes there is the need to just shut up.
