Mate as i have been told before for an extra 7000-10000-ish baht you can have yourself a brand new one.. Up 2 U as they say..Otherwise all the motorbike dealers sell (high priced in my insignificant opinion) second hand bikes in decent nick..happy trails.

Any recommendations in the lower end of the four stroke range. 150 - 250cc ?

Plastic pig wise, a brand spanker 100cc is only about 30-odd k and a 125, around 40k - basic models. Those Yamaha direct drive scooters go alright and look a laugh. Doesn't matter if you look a tit because everyone's in the same boat here. No point in getting a super-duper 150 or 175 :D as not as easy when on a bender. :o:D

I saw an ad tacked up on the billboard outside the Kasem Store yesterday for appeared to be a late model motorbike. I think the owner wanted 21,000 for it and said there was some urgency to sell. Might still be there. Good luck.

Thanks, which kasems was it?

I've got a mate who has a motorbike rental place up there, but bigger bikes. I think he dabbles a bit in the buying and selling as well. He's a bit flaky though. PM me if you want me to put you in touch :o

OK . you wanna buy a Bike in chiangmai ,

well . go to a Sunday market - Long chok . ( not sure if i got it right . )

Is on the Way to Mae Jo .

The market Open every SUNDAY Morning and you can have about 100-200 Second hand Bike .

ON display and all the Price is Listed - so is up to you for bargain .

Do bring a Thai freinds . so he or she can help you check out with the paper work .

IMPORTANCE NOTE >

BUY BIKE WITH FULL REGISTERY BOOKLET AND TAXES PAID >

MAKE SURE YOU MATCH THE OWNER TO SELLER > ( SOME IS STOLEN )

PRICE RANGE FROM AS LOW AS 4000 baht -

DON"T BUY BIKE WITH JUST INVOICE > ( YOU NEED THE REGISTERY BOOKLET to be LEGAL )

YOU DO GET IN TROUBLE

IF you Need Help . i do visit the Market now and then looking for classic cars .

Is also double as a car market on the week end .

What i would not waste time on .

Fancy BIke . you might get the most fancy bike in chiangmai .

DO think about REPAIRING > and MAINTANCE .

alot of bike there that look fancy is SOLD for ONE reason . LACK OF PARTS > or LACK OF workshop who can repair it .

also KNOW Workshop who is sepcialisze in 400cc UP Bike .SPORT BIKE .

Price Range from . 50,000 up MOstly Honda . with new carbon fiber kits .

Anyway

I own a HONDA DREAM . 100cc is a OLD bike .

i got RIP OFF and got it at a High price of 20,000 baht .

but i am LUCKY cos this bike had not gaven me any trobule for the last 5 years .

i had rode it to as far as , chang sean , chang kong , mae sai , Tak , mae sot , lamphun , lampang and many many nice places .

last of all . go to some Bike workshop . someone is good to get your bike at a local Bike shop .

cos this way you can get them to service your bike since you got it from them . .

Good luck

if you need any info or help

just PM me or let me know i see what i can do .

Anyone know of good places for 'old' bikes... not quite the classics, but 60's-70's style Honda's that aren't too big, but look quite nice when done up.

I bought one about 7 yrs ago from the market that used to be under 12 Huay Goaw. Cost 9k, in av. condition. Saw one completely restored a few months later completely restored for 40k. Its on its last legs now though.

These days they have become quite fashionable, but rediculously expensive - saw a real nice 250cc one, dual pipes, but they wanted 70k.

Info on good repair shops for such bikes also welcome.

I would suggest that you check with my friend 'Joe' at Good Will motorcycle on Soi2 Chiang Moi (intersection with Thai Military Bank). Phone is 251-186. He's selling/fixing various bikes, some he has owned, and you can trust him. Seriously. :o

Every SAT . if it Don't RAIN there will be a Garthering at the Thapae Gate . Chekc it out .. and there is alot of Bike collector .. Go there to look for . Repair info .

but i would not Suggest buying there.. unles syou know them well.

alot is price too high .. but is a large group of collector which can point you to good direction ..

i saw some of the honda 50 cc . selling for 10k or so .

i got a friends selling his Honda 250cc for 30k . but without paper work . ( risk )
