Bus number 500 steals 500 Baht from a Norwegian Tourist and pays the price.

An interesting case now from the Tourist Police Mobile Unit located on Walking Street. The Baht Bus cooperative who operates over 700 Baht buses here in Pattaya last year implemented a customer complaint response unit which has proven extremely effective in solving disputes between Tourists and buses.

In this case the complaint service was put into practice by the Tourist Police after they received a complaint from Mr. Pal Hageencen from Norway and his family who employed the services of Baht Bus number 500. The journey began at the View Talay Condominium in Jomtien to Big C in North Pattaya, however an exact price for the journey was not agreed upon by both parties. At the conclusion to the journey, the taxi driver quoted 60 Baht but Mr. Hageencen only had a 500 Baht note on him. He passed it over and he then claims the taxi driven by Khun Sor aged 45 then drove off without giving back the change.

The Tourist Police contacted the Baht Bus Cooperative who located the Baht Bus in question which made its way to Walking Street. The Driver initially claimed that he thought he was given a 50 Baht note but this did not explain why he allegedly drove off without receiving the extra 10 Baht. Eventually the driver admitted he had driven off with the 500 Baht note which was duly returned to Mr. Hageencen who, despite the attempted theft, gave the driver 60 Baht to him for the journey. Khun Sor is now suspended from driving pending a further investigation.

Beware also of Baht Bus #77: A woman driver who is from hel_l. She will get out of her cab and shout and scream and demand a minimum of 20 baht for any length of trip.

She is equally nasty to fellow Thais. She works by day on the route: Soi Bukhaew-Jomtien (Sai Chaiaprukh)-Pattaya Tai-Soi Bukhaew-Pattaya Klang-Big C/Soi 2- Beach Road-Pattaya Tai, round trip.

I move about with an ample supply of coins and 20 baht notes as many drivers and moto guys always seem to have run out of change for anything larger. :o

I had a similar experience last year with a baht bus driver.

I got in on Second Road just before Tops to go to Big C and the driver actually turned and went up towards Carrefour so i got out and I didn't really want to pay him but gave him 20 baht and said 5 baht because i only went around the corner and he had not taken the usual route.

He got most upset and then he threw the note back out of the songtaew onto the road. At this point unbeknownst to me a motorcycle cop was close by. The cop went up to the driver and started chattering away and took his licence and headed off toward the cop shop with the songtaew driver following him. The cop never said anything to me but i am sure the driver would have been fined for his behaviour.

My Thai friends told me i should have paid the 20 baht because all songtaew drivers are crazy and the guy might get me if he sees me again/

Simple -

1. Ring Bell lil after road you want to go. (can't reverse)

2. Exact Change

3. Give 5-10bht

4. Walk away and dont acknowledge

Never had a problem myself if you follow these rules.

The baht busses are out of control. I drive, so I have no use to patronize these scumbags. They are the absolute worst drivers in Thailand.. stopping on a one-lane street without warning to "honk" at someone, changing lanes without even *looking* and clogging up the streets.

How the baht bus companies manage to locate the nastiest, greediest and scummiest people is beyond me.

I think the only prerequisite for operating a baht bus is that you *must* have less than one hour driving experience.
