Family of Muslim teen seeks $15M in clock incident

IRVING, Texas (AP) — Attorneys for a 14-year-old Muslim boy arrested after the homemade clock he took to his Dallas-area school was mistaken for a possible bomb said Monday he was publicly mistreated and deserves $15 million.

A law firm representing Ahmed Mohamed sent letters Monday demanding $10 million from the city of Irving and $5 million from the Irving Independent School District. The letters also threaten lawsuits and seek written apologies.

Ahmed took his clock to school in September, and an educator thought it could be a bomb. Ahmed was arrested but never charged. He was suspended from school.

"What has happened to this family is inexcusable," Kelly Hollingsworth, an attorney for Ahmed and his family, said in an email. "As indicated in the letters, the long term effects on Ahmed are incalculable."

Meribeth Sloan, a spokeswoman for Irving said the city is reviewing its letter and has no comment. The district didn't immediately return a message Monday.

The family accepted a foundation's offer to pay for Ahmed's education in Qatar and moved to the Persian Gulf country. He had visited Qatar during a whirlwind several weeks following the incident that even included a stop at the White House.

Hollingsworth said Ahmed and his younger siblings have found schools in Qatar, but his older sisters, who are 17 and 18, have not.

"Ahmed is very gratified by all of the support that he has received, but just like his siblings and his parents, he misses Texas. It is his home," Hollingsworth said.

As far as wackyness goes, the good ol' us of a sure does rival Thailand. Young Ahmed is a hoaxer and now he has lawered up to cash in big time, how many people would trade an hour in custody for all the perks that lad has already scored. I hope this eventually blows up in his face, the little scammer.

In any other Muslim country he would have been dead or in prison by now, but America, the land of the

fools and litigations, the country of PC and die hard liberal left leaning merciful people, and he's got

a very good chance to get few millions out of it, after all, Mr. Obama himself invited him to the white

house..... and what defense lawyer will argue with that?

I thought they had done away with these ridiculous and frivolous lawsuits in the US.

Who makes a homemade clock and takes it to school.knowing the high level of security that American schools have? Someone who's looking for a reason make a fuss and sue someone else -- that's who. This has nothing to do with the kid being Muslim. Ya, let him have his day in court and them slap him with a huge bill for all the time and resources he's wasted when he loses.

He bought the clock wired it into a metal briefcase and wonders why the teacher called the police , This sounds like a set up from the get go. Now he wants 15million for the trauma maybe the school should counter sue.

I can't help feeling that if the student had been a home-grown white kid that made the clock, and been reported by the teacher for the same suspicion (possible IED), would he have been able to sue for $15 million? I suspect he would have been able to sue (seems everyone has the right there), but what would his chances be for being successful?

This is a big problem with racialism, or rather the prevention of imagined racialism being seen and addressed........................wink.png

Not sure why you would bring up Thailand. If this case was brought up in a Thai court, the judge would laugh his ass off and kick the kid and his blood-sucking lawyer out of the courtroom.

Shame his father failed in his bid to become President of Sudan.

"You put laws that conform to international conventions on human rights that would achieve social justice and assert individual freedoms. All laws that restrict freedoms will be abolished.

On the apostasy law, El-Hassan said that it is no longer relevant and will repeal it stressing that no one can be forced to adopt a faith he does not believe in"

Law fare is just another manifestation of jihad. The tactic is to wear down and waste the resources of the civilization they wish to destroy by using its laws and customs against it. This will continue unabated until the gullible and self-loathing stop falling for it. I'm not holding my breath on that count.

The guy's father established a centre for Sufi mysticism in Texas. Sufi's in Sudan are actively oppressed by Islamists.

An article covering the history of the Sufi's from being the soldiers of Islam to now being the enemies of Islamic extremism at the URL below:

In 2007, the influential RAND Corporation issued a major report titled "Building Moderate Muslim Networks," which urged the US government to form links with Muslim groups that opposed Islamist extremism. The report stressed the Sufi role as moderate traditionalists open to change, and thus as potential allies against violence.

He's not going to get anywhere with this. A jury will see exactly what we see. If there's a settlement it will be what's called a "nuisance case settlement". Sometimes it's cheaper and easier to pay a smaller amount to make something go away than it is to see the case to its conclusion.

I am not sure, but it wouldn't have to go to a jury. I think it could be heard by a judge and it might have some technical support in law.

This would be the most logical path as even though the school may have been in the right, but with a possible overreaction defending themselves in court would be a media frenzy that would only benefit the planetif. (sp?)
