Not family friendly for sure! Thailand should get back to basics, back to what made it a great place in the '85-2005 timeframe. It could still be champion even amongst all the Vietnams, Cambodias and Phils of the world. -

Crime Chinese National Arrested in Pattaya While Withdrawing Nearly One Million Baht in Cash

A Chinese national alleged to be a member of a notorious call centre scam gang was arrested in Pattaya, as he attempted to withdraw nearly one million baht from an ATM machine. On 11 June, Pol. Col. Anek Srathongyu, Superintendent of Pattaya City Police Station, led a joint operation involving the Chonburi Provincial Investigation Unit and the Cross-Border Crime Suppression Task Force. The operation executed an arrest warrant issued by Pattaya Provincial Court against Mr Zhu Jiagen, 29, a Chinese citizen. Mr Zhu faces multiple charges, including membership of a secret society (known locally as “ang yi”), conspiracy to defraud the public, inputting false data into a computer system with intent to deceive, conspiracy to commit money laundering and direct involvement in money laundering activities. Police apprehended the suspect outside a convenience store near Bang Lamung Temple, located in Bang Lamung District, Chonburi Province. At the time of arrest, Mr Zhu was in possession of 951,000 baht in cash, all in 1,000 baht notes, as well as bank withdrawals slips and a white Nissan Teana registered in Bangkok. The arrest followed an extensive surveillance operation. Investigators had tracked Mr Zhu to the area after receiving intelligence that he had taken refuge near the temple. Officers lay in wait and moved in as he was withdrawing money from an ATM machine. Mr Zhu is believed to be a key player in an international scam network responsible for defrauding Thai citizens through sophisticated phone-based deception schemes. Authorities are now conducting further investigations and interrogations as part of their crackdown on cross-border organised crime. That's not been my experience. I went to my local immigration office to transfer the stamp to my new passport. They said not possible, need to go to the airport, only the immigration officers there can do it. At the airport, the immigration officers said it's also not possible to link an e-visa to a new passport, but because the two passports are linked, it's not a problem as long as you always bring both passports. -

Transport Thailand's Transport Ministry Accelerates Infrastructure Expansion
Not sure posters have ever been to Khon Kaen lately (or ever), but the city has really grown impressively/economically during last ten years. The station seems nearing completion and the elevated infrastructure for the station and a good length of track in KK appears 'finished' (read: built). I go there around once a year, and I hate the 7-8 hour drive from BKK to KK, so I'm looking forward to the completion. Local farmers could benefit if high-speed freight is added - the farmers would take their produce to a forwarding company at the various stops between BKK and Nong Kai. Then transported by truck to Rangsit's Dalat Thai. I agree, just contract it out to the Chinese companies that built all the lines in China and it will be finished quickly. But after the collapse of the China-built Audit Office in Bangkok, the public would be highly critical to allow Chinese companies to take over. As for delays, you know what's causing it - we all do. Everyone needs to get in on the action - one way or another. At least that new motorway M60? has partially opened - a brand new 100 km of roadway - no services yet though. Fill your tank and pack your cooler.
