PHUKET: -- Three people were injured when three vehicles, two of them six-wheeled trucks, piled into each other in central Phuket yesterday afternoon (Nov 30).

Maj Nanthaya Supanpong of the Thalang Police was called at 4:15pm to investigate the accident, in front of HomePro on Thepkrasattri Rd northbound in Srisoonthorn.

At the scene, officers found a six-wheeled delivery truck crashed on the central reservation with two injured passengers – Kingmanee Towngsit, 30, and Suriyon Suersap, 32 – trapped inside.

More than 10 rescue workers were forced to use “jaws of life” hydraulic cutters to free Ms Kingmanee and Mr Suriyon, before rushing them to Thalang Hospital. Ms Kingmanee had suffered injuries to her right leg, and Mr Suriyon to his right hand and right leg.

The driver escaped injury. Maj Nanthaya, out on duty when called by The Phuket News, said she could not remember his name.

“The truck was en route to deliver supplies to a Super Cheap store,” Maj Nanthaya added.

Nearby was a Toyota Altis with its driver, a woman, sitting behind the wheel in a state of shock. Her car had been rear-ended by a different six-wheeled truck that was parked on the side of the road with its driver standing by.

The current driving test has a 'brake test'. On the illumination of a light the examinee stamps on a brake peddle.

Many local drivers don't understand that driving a car is about controlling the vehicle. And that their own actions affect other road users. So many accidents are caused by the actions of road users not involved in the accident itself. They don't know when to indicate, when to use the brakes, how their parked car affects other road users.

Many quirks to driving, cars parked on the side of road adjacent to junctions. Idiots blocking filter lanes.

<snip>

I renewed my 5 year DL in Phuket 2 months ago. There was no 'brake test', only a colour test, and a depth perception test. 5 years ago I only had the colour test, no brake or depth perception test ....

Mind you have talked to people who did have the 'brake test'. My point here is the inconsistancy with the DL 'tests' ...
