Ok so here it goes:

I am Canadian with a Thai bf( over 2 years). He got a tourist visa for July and Aug to go to Canada. We went and came back. We are now getting married in July in Thailand and then October in Canada. We do not want to live in Canada. We will both be going to school in Bangkok when we return from Canada in November. Now my question is: Is it not difficult to get a husband/wife into a country with a visitors visa? I have heard that it then makes it look like we are going to try and stay in Canada. The woman told him when he was given the visa that if he comes back when he is supposed to getting a visa the second time would be easier, however marriage changes things. Now technically we could apply for this visa before we marry and then do not have to mention we will be getting married. He does not have any assets and really even though we put together a 30 page binder of letters, forms etc on his first application, I think he was actully granted the visa b/c they believed him during the interview. Aside from steady employment ( makes 200 baht a day), going to school and the fact that he takes care of his mom he has no other reason to stay in Thailand according to the embassy. Now I am hoping a letter of acceptance from the school I will be attending would help to show that I will not be staying in Canada, but I still am not sure if we should mention the marriage if we are not married at the time of handing in the application.

Thanks for your time.

Its possibly becaue I am tired and not concentrating - but on the one hand I get the impression your question is in respect of supporting your Thai boyfriend in getting avisa to stay in Canada, and then I get the impression that your question is about getting your visa o stay with hi in Thailand - by which tiem you will be married to him.

If I am not mistaken, while the rules for Thai girl to Foreigner male are well covered in the literally 1000's of posts on the THAIVISA forum, the rules as they appliy to Foreign female marrying Thai male are actually somewhat different.

Can anyone comment perhaps it'll make a good new thread - so I'll post it there as well (with no refernace to your particular case - just in case I have misunderstood.

meme, when my husband I first married they required him to get a green card (Im American) and would not give him a visitors visa because we had just gotten married. I did not have any kind of long term visa for Thailand at the time and of course, they assumed, that he married me so he could go to the US and work.

The second time he applied for a tourist visa to the US (he'd surrendered the green card by this time) we had been married 15 years, I had been getting one year extensions for about 11 years and he owned our house and business, with money in the bank. It was clear that we were both living in Thailand and getting the visa was no trouble at all.

So, yes, being married isn't a help for a visitors visa when you do not have a long term visa for Thailand and you yourself don't have serious ties to Thailand. But, if you can prove (once married) that you too have serious ties to Thailand then you might have a chance.
