Skytrain bike rant!

Yesterday: "Bike For Dad" day wasn't a lot of fun for passengers on the Skytrain or probably the subway as well. Dozens of bicyclist with their machines crowding onto the cars, completely blocking exits and making it difficult for people to get out of their seats...total chaos!! Platform guards made little effort to try to enforce any kind of order or even distribution of bicycles.

Everybody, including BTS officials has known this day was coming and a little pre-planning would have made so much difference for all. Designating the last car of each train as a bike car or a least the open area where cars join and having the platform guards enforcing it would have made for a much happier day for all.

I was on the bits yesterday and saw some bikes. I walked along the platform a choose a carriage without any bikes. Its one bts trip on one day, its hardly reason to get upset.

Good rant, as rants go. Clear, concise, offered solutions, and didn't refer to anyone using pejoratives. Well done.

With a BTS designed to do "X" every day, I'm not sure all the advance planning in the world would prevent chaos when it's tasked to do "X+Y" for one day in its history. But 99,999 riders and their entourages got some exercise and showed their respect for their beloved King, so a little inconvenience to the rest of us was probably a reasonable trade off.

Which doesn't discount the inconvenience articulated in the rant. Valid observation. Probably felt good to commit it to black and white.

I commute daily from Bearing to Asoke. The Asoke end is insanely crowded during a couple 2 hour blocks each day. The bikes made the commute even more crowded and miserable. The planners of this event did not consider the trouble because the Hi-So people (who planned this) do not use the BTS or MRT. But in reality, it was only one day and is done. Not worth ranting about now.

Designating the roads as the place for bikes would be a better idea, unless BTS charged those with bikes extra to compensate for the fare-paying passengers space that they occupy, i.e. four times as much as normal, considerate passengers.

And this is not a one day, one trip problem as someone suggested, it happens frequently and cyclists always seem to attack the BTS in groups. Time BTS banned them.

Valid observation.

After giving your patronising critique you forgot to give him a mark out of ten. Or a gold star.

Real bicyclists drive home on two wheels biggrin.png

Skytrain is laughably small and jam packed most of the time.

Must really have been "fun" with a couple of bikes in such a coach wink.png

This city is decades away from becoming attractive for bicyclists.

Sometimes, people who rant just want to be heard, have their input acknowledged and have their complaint validated. Especially people who put the word "rant" right there in the title.

BTS shouldn't have let this happen. I cycled on the roads beneath all the way during and for the B4D event, it's hardly going to break your butt doing it.

Annoyingly even with B4D shirt and registration card on - the police wouldn't let me cycle on some empty roads tho.

The city is generations away from having any type of transportation system at all.

That's completely wrong. They should have run more frequent trains and had designated bicycle only cars on that day. But that would require forethought and worst of all, investing a few satang.

I work in Silom and prepared well for such an eventuality.

Told my missis I would be late home and when work finished I mooched over to Patpong to wait out the madness in a bar.

Went home at 10:30, no problem at all.

I just wish there were toilets on the sky train.
