BANGKOK: -- The name Chalawan, the epithet of the evil Thai crocodile king who according to folk legend was killed for getting jiggy with a human woman, has won a global vote for naming a star near our solar system.

The name, which was submitted by the Thai Astronomy Society, will be given to a yellow dwarf star formerly called "47 Ursae Majoris," located in the Great Bear constellation, the International Astronomical Union announced today.

The Great Bear constellation is also known as the "crocodile stars" in Thai astronomy, so Chalawan is definitely the perfect name for the star.

Chalawan has a similar mass to our sun and hosts three exoplanets, two of which will be named after the human wife Thapao Thong and her sister Taphao Kaew, sexing up the science of astronomy.
