Thailand International Swan Boat Race 2015 to kick off this weekend

BANGKOK, 18 December 2015 (NNT) - The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has invited everyone to see the '10th Thailand International Swan Boat Race 2015’ this weekend.

The TAT and the Office of Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) will co-host the boat race on the Chao Phraya River. It is aimed at promoting unity and preserving the ancient tradition.

There will be two Thai boat-racing competitions and one international event. Thai athletes will compete in the 55-rower and 30-rower categories to win His Majesty the King’s and Her Majesty the Queen’s Trophies respectively.

Meanwhile, 12 rowers will be required for each boat contesting in the international one. A total of 16 teams from 10 nations around the world will compete for an award from Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha.

The 10th Thailand International Swan Boat Race 2015 is the only boat-racing event in the world that requires contestants to compete in a traditional Thai boat.
