Internet Cafe to Work From?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am looking for an internet cafe that is:

-> clean

-> quiet

-> fast, reliable internet

-> good computers

-> comfortable chairs

Basically, a suitable environment to do work online for several hours per day. I had planned on going to a co-working space during my stay, but my laptop just crashed on me so that's out for the time being. I hope there is some place available, I don't mind location so long as it's not super far from the city.

Thank you.

Walk along Nimmanhemin Road and nearby soys and you're bound to come across one. Many places catering to digital nomads. Some have weekly and monthly rates and you can stay as long as you want.

There is a nice coffee shop on Loy Kroh not far from Grand Centara...Siam Coffee I think its called. They have computers there but undure of the cost.

Its certainly not a place for slack-packers or those that dont want to pay, but a nice place with good food too.

Glad to see the haters are out in force on this thread. Never understand all the anger some people have on this site.

Because some of us have done the right thing and have got a work permit for even just volunteering time or because we want to work legal. That's what make me bitter.

I am tired of seeing on my Facebook page stuff like "We are coming to Chiang Mai for 10 days from one of the islands so we can work as we have been told Chiang Mai is the best place to work from. We want to meet like minded people as we are living on a very short budget and told Chiang Mai is very cheap"

and two of the best to date on my page was

"I am a personal trainer for farang and my rates are as cheap as a Thai. I am here for 3 months"

an to take the cream of the cake

"I am a ex-special forces mercenary and for US$ 400 for a two day training course, I will show you how to get out of a situation of a kidnap. The course will be held in my guest house and I am in Chiang Mai for 7 days"

Yet you wonder why we crack the shits?

The guy/gal said he was looking for an internet cafe; not a coffee shop to sit for five hours with one cup of coffee. They will all be a little noisy in the after school hours...most will have headphones. Go up Suthep Rd., west of Canal Rd., and there are some for 10 per hour, and I think there is one for 15 per hour that is far less crowded and more quiet. Even Buddy Internet over across from KSK could work, I think they charge 20.

Dunno if I'm a hater, but knowing that CM Immigration have previously rounded up and removed to a police station all the foreigners with a computer in an internet cafe ........ is a bit discouraging.

If I were working on the sly, it would be in my home with the door locked.

From the sounds of gnashing of teeth (fangs ?) here, it sounds like some folks believe there have been instances of "raids" on internet-cafes or "workspaces," and "busts."

Any specific sources for this ?

ThaiVisa last year.

PunSpace Internet Cafe, about 20 foreigners rounded up and carted off.

Oh, give the guy a break. Those who were rounded up were released once they could produce a passport with a valid visa. Imm. didn't care what type of visa, just so they weren't on overstay. Imm. can't tell the different between posting on ThaiVisa and working on your blog with GoogleAds, after all.

I like the library that's part of the Design building near Muang Mai market. They have computers to use and it's overall a very nice, modern, quiet and cool place to be.

Many good books, too. Very roughly about 'design' but in a very loose definition.. So from architecture all the way to garden design, cuisine, etc.

There's a yearly membership.

I thought that working online was ok now, as in no need for work permit if money was into a foreign account ? Been discussed a great deal on here..

Plus the OP is after an internet cafe, not a coffee shop..

Lol @ some of the replies. Guess it serves me right for my choice of wording. I am here in CM on holidays. But there were a couple of self paced online courses I had been doing before leaving and I wanted to resume them because I am exploring a change of career. In fact, getting away from work I resent is precisely why I am here in Thailand! The courses are on areas I like and wish to explore a transition to in future, but for now they are just hobbies (coding, phil, psych). I also want to work on my chess, a hobby I used to take rather seriously but have more or less abandoned in recent times. It may be unpaid, but it requires a serious approach and work-like environment, hence my unfortunate choice of words when requesting advice.

Oh, and thank you very much to all who gave me genuine advice, I will be following up on your suggestions.

Great. Just if you are going to hold forth for hours Manspreading your lappie and materials could you please order a reasonable amount of cakes and drinks? Not too much to ask for free Wifi.

You might want to read the original post ;)

Their "lappie" is broken - hence the need for an Internet cafe and not a coffee shop with free internet - there is a slight difference ;)

He's not asking for free Wifi...

Read carefully before jumping on his case !

I see. The one place I knew left on Nimman closed a few months ago. The other gone since last year. Most of the spots left with actual computers to use are oriented to (Thai)kids to play MMORPG.

It is unfortunate that some contributors on this forum attack the poster as opposed to contributing towards the topic.

Of course we understand why!

Discourse does NOT consist of darting in and out and attacking the poster as a Moray eel might do when it sniffs out prey.

CM is full of such people... you know who I mean... the farangs who won't acknowledge another farangs presence in the foyer of their condo ... blah blah blah

Sad statement but true.

As far as the OP goes, i think some people have commented in a genuine, instructive and compassionate way.

For the rest, may your fall from the end of the vine be cushioned by something mushy and canine in origin.

Why would I want to acknowledge someone just because they're white?

Sounds a bit racist to me!

Why would you think all farang are white ?

Sounds a bit racist to me !

Think this thread has run it's intended course, OP has been given some suggestions... Result :)

I acknowledge everyone in my presence regardless of skin colour or creed.

Don't you?

If not, then try it sometime and enjoy the wealth of benefits.

And the haters are here. Haters got to hate. I was impressed how you turned the OP's post into something completely different
