Health Department of Livestock Declares Rabies Outbreak Zone
Picture courtesy of Komchadluek. The Department of Livestock Development has officially declared a temporary rabies outbreak zone in Moo 7, Bang Pla Subdistrict, Bang Phli District, Samut Prakan Province, following confirmed cases of rabies in dogs. The announcement comes amid concerns over the disease spreading to neighbouring areas. According to the Bang Phli Livestock Office, rabies is a notifiable animal epidemic under the Animal Epidemic Act of 2015. The outbreak poses a risk of spreading through the movement of infected animals or contaminated carcasses. Under Section 20 of the Animal Epidemic Act B.E. 2558 (2015), the temporary outbreak zone is defined with the following boundaries: • North: Adjacent to Bang Sao Thong Subdistrict, Bang Sao Thong District, Samut Prakan • South: Adjacent to Bang Phliang Subdistrict, Bang Bo District, Samut Prakan • East: Adjacent to Bang Phliang Subdistrict, Bang Bo District, Samut Prakan • West: Adjacent to Bang Pla Subdistrict, Bang Phli District, Samut Prakan The declaration prohibits any movement of dogs, cats or their carcasses into, out of or within the outbreak zone without written permission from the responsible veterinary officer, as mandated by Section 22 of the Animal Epidemic Act. This restriction has been enforced from 5 August until 4 September 2025 to control the spread of rabies in the area. Authorities urge residents to comply strictly with these regulations and report any suspected cases immediately. The Department of Livestock Development remains vigilant in monitoring the situation to prevent further outbreaks and safeguard public health. Adapted by Asean Now from Khomchadluek 2025-08-10
