By a lesbian atheist.

OK, I didn't need any convincing.

This lack of maternal instinct is convenient because not only am I a tote-bag-carrying-nature-loving-gun-hating-child-free-atheist (a.k.a. Satan, for those of you in red states), I’m also a homosexual (a.k.a. Gay Satan). For us gays, having kids is more complicated than it is for those of you who can just knock your parts together and wake up pregnant. It takes planning, and I’ve never been much of a planner. Besides, even though homosexuality has been so normalized that Tiffany’s now has ad campaigns featuring Adam and Steve, when I was a teen gay, things like marriage and parenthood just didn’t seem possible. Fifteen years ago, gay marriage was as legally binding as two 5-year-olds exchanging ring pops. It was something I didn’t think I’d ever be able to do, and so I never really considered it an option. Same with parenthood. And though the times have changed, I have not. At this point, I’m about as likely to give birth to a mini fridge as to a human.

Some people have issues with gays adopting or having children , but personally think as long as they can provide a stable and loving household ... It's a lot more than some kids get in many traditional families

Thought the below was funny as well..

The trouble with this kind of discussion is that every human being is an individual, and what works for one couple may not work for another. The same applies to heterosexuals. Some gay couples make great parents; some heterosexual couples are awful parents.

The real argument for not having children is the explosion of the earth's population, which is soaring at an ever faster rate. Somewhere we must hit a ceiling. The only things which can prevent that are the Four Horses of the Apocalypse, a plague of huge proportions, widespread famine, or a war to end all wars (and possibly the human race at the same time).

The only people who make the decision not to have children will be thinking people.... just the sort who should breed. The beer and sex brigade on this forum will be among those who breed like rabbits.

Five year olds exchanging ring pops just sounds wrong.........
