Thailand Could Be Banned From Olympics And Asian Games

Thailand face axe if event called off

The Federation Internationale De Volley Ball (FIVB), the governing body of beach volleyball, may ban Thailand from the Asian Games and the Olympic Games if they do not host the FIVB World Tour Beach Volleyball competition in Phuket from November 1-5. The president of the Volleyball Association of Thailand, Sermsak Pongpanich, signed a contract with the FIVB to host the competition. But financial difficulties mean it may not go ahead as planned. The total cost of the tournament is 21 million baht but the coffers are currently eight million baht short.

If the VAT fail to raise the cash they will be fined 3.7 million baht and players could be banned from the Olympic Games and Asian Games.

That's a very benevolent gesture on your part to provide complimentary services without a fee for this contest as it seems to lack full funding.

I just hope that in the spirit of sporting rivalry a solution can be found that would not deny people the opportunity to witness the marvelous spectacle of finesse and strength from competitors spanning the globe:

ok, it is a sport so perhaps if could we move it to sports and hobbies forum...

and anyone who is viewing it as a "hobby" has to swear it's really to look at it as a "sport."

I love beach volley ball, watching it at the last olympics kept me up all night!

I'm blind already.

Giz a job as a linesman/woman.

Jing-jo has graciously volunteered to help out the tournament as a free ball-boy, but there is a need for others to take on other positions, such as towel-boy to brush off the sand on these athletes... any takers for this volunteer job???
