PHUKET: New jet-ski regulations will now mandate that every renter must be at least 18 years of age to be allowed to operate the vehicle by themselves.

Six new jet-ski regulations are to be put in place within 30 days, confirmed Vice Governor Chokdee Amornwat at a meeting with jet-ski operators this morning.

“Should a driver be under the age limit, they must be accompanied by either a member of the jet-ski company staff, a parent or a person who is of age,” Vice Governor Chokdee said.

And why not the same on the roads.?

The VG may be overestimating his authority as existing laws should determine what is required and not a knee jerk response to bad publicity.

Racism at its worst. If they hadn't qualified the first half of the sentence it wouldn't have sounded so bad.

Oh yes!i can really see this one working.A kid turns up with a handful of baht, tells them he's 18 and off he goes.

I can really see the Jet ski operators, aka, scum, refusing him and turning down a load of wedge.

They will simply insist that he had ID but dont know where it vanished to.

This is farcical.

I bet the copper on his bike, about 50 yards away, conveniently available to help the poor tourist, will still be there.

At the end of the day, is this a step forwards? If so it should probably be commended in the hope of further progress. The person responsible for the new rule is going to take some heat from vested interests and deserves a little support, no?
