Not sure what they call it here but in Australia we call it registration. Paid yearly to the govt for road tax and accompanied by compulsory third party (injury) insurance. I posted some questions on this sometime ago and people were coming back quoting figures of 5000 baht plus a year. I have an Isuzu 4wd vcross space cab, 1 year old so first renewal. Insurance was 900 baht and rego 1050 baht. Nothing like I was advised on here? Am I missing something?

Other thing I don't understand is there seems to be no reminder process or renewal sent out in the post. Knowing what thais are like I can't believe they just remember to go and pay when due. What's the go?

As said in previous post: "space cab" sounds like a 2+2 drs. and is taxed on empty weight as a utility vehicle ("real" pickup), green on white number plates.

Tax is constant over the years, typically about 1000 Baht.

4 doors are taxed like any limousine based on displacement, black on white number plates.

Complicated formula, decreasing from 100% down to 50% from the 6th year.

Much higher tax compared to a pickup.

A 3l engine would cost about 6900 Baht.

A 2.5l engine would cost about 4900 Baht.

Taxed my 2.2 Mazda BT50 yesterday, 3,600 baht

So that's a four door.

Current model is a 2197 ccm, makes 3692 Baht.

I read a posts where a member wrote that his complementary insurance agent gives him a reminder.

But there is NO reminder for the compulsory insurance/tax from DLT.

Not letter in the box.

The cop at roadside will remind them tongue.png

Good for Thai people: they can read the date on the sticker, while most foreigners can not (the month is abbr. in Thai script) biggrin.png

Its quite easy to remember when you need to pay your tax because the expiration date is written on the "tax disc" that should be displayed on your front windscreen...you can pay up to 90 days early.

Compulsory third party Insurance is required before they will issue a tax disc so you can't forget that .

easy for someone who cares to remember. I can't see someone living in a village willingly going to pay road tax, in fact the lady at transport told us many just dont. Same as most dont bother getting a license. Must be tens of thousands of unregistered vehicles here. I spose if u get pulled up sling a few hundred baht and you're away so why would u. I'm guessing if they hit you any insurance if they had any would be void.

"quite" easy if you either know or can read the month tongue.png

Once you found out about the exact date, just store in your calendar of the mobile as a birthday and set the reminder to two weeks before. This helps, especially if you have to track down a few vehicles.

I dont have a problem remembering. I'm just saying your low income farmer wouldn't just front up and pay it.
