TallGuyJohninBKK
I was at a Bangkok branch of Big C Extra today, and they had still a regular selection of the Casino brand frozen vegetables and pasta I like to buy there. Their stocks of those were not bare. However, in the wake of the TCC acquisition moving into the future, I wouldn't want to bet money on how long that international product presence from Casino is going to continue at Big Cs. TheCruncher
I doubt that as Today I noticed that almost all Casino products had been removed from the shelves already at Big C extra Pattaya. I was there today and all seemed normal to me. Most of the Casino products in the refrigerators have been removed for about 6 months already. Casino also had a large selection of pastas, pasta sauces and dry products like mashed potato. All these products are located on 1 long shelf, and was almost fully stocked on Friday. Today all the products mentioned above had their place taken by brand name products. As the deal isn't expected to be finalised until March 31st I don't see this would have anything to do with the new ownership. I recall that several Casino products I used to buy haven't been available since September last year. These are were mostly French cheeses and salami products. Over the past 6 months I have seen more and more Casino product disappear, and it did strike me that the pastas, pasta sauces and mashed potatoes were removed overnight. Aforek
I stopped using Tesco because of the pathetic selection of imported goods. BigC (at least the one I go to in central Pattaya) has a lot of imported items (mostly French) of reasonable quality at slightly less than eye-watering prices. It also has a French baker and an English butcher. If the new owners get rid of any of that it will be very bad news as far as I'm concerned. I am concerned, too, because I am French and I like cheese, and Casino products are not bad ( they are really the same products that the ones sold in France, not for importation, that's why every label is written in French ) but , don't worry, in my Big C Market, I have seen today a poster in English, dated yesterday, which says that Casino products will continue to be sold in Big C ( only Big C ), as before
ricklev
Big C Rajadamri in Bangkok has stopped restocking Casino products. The shelves are emptying. However, I just noticed the post above. Maybe it's just a temporary glitch. Edited February 21, 2016 by ricklev

Maybe it's just a temporary glitch. Glitch? Seems to be standard operating procedures in Thailand. Only start restocking 2 months after the very last item of a product has been purchased. When you don't see something on the shelves here, it maybe a half year before you see it again. At the Thai run establishments

I recall that it lasted until the stock was sold, or about 3 weeks.

Once the deals inked they will supply goods again. I'm guessing a HUGE stock take will have transpired over the past weeks!

At the Thai run establishments I would like to say you are wrong, but for one thing, it's true: last year there was Casino black chocolate, more than 75 % pure chocolate, very good and much cheaper than Lindt or Nestlé, many people bought it, and now nothing at all, I don't know why it has disapeared for at least 10 months ; for the rest, the Big C Market in Cha am is always full of Casino products but I have heard that it's because it's a Big C market ; I know other Big C in Thailand ( not in Bangkok or tourist areas ) and they have very, very few Casino products, several have nothing ( Thai people , I think, are not interrested )

I wonder if it may be explained by conservative economics, for example. Perhaps Thai companies like to by smaller orders and renegotiate bulk orders. Or, perhaps they manage all stock manually and simply don't identify the necessity to reorder for lengthy periods of time. Or perhaps they simply cannot find people in the country who can manage inventory? It seems a common problem at almost any type of establishment here. Very odd. Lived in a few places (even one fighting an active domestic war), but never stock management so poor as Thailand.

The only Big C branches I've seen selling Casino products were the ones in Pattaya, Hua Hin and some in downtown Bangkok. Even the one in Pathum Thani doesn't have any, and neither do the ones in Nakorn Sawan and Kamphaeng Phet I know quite well.
