BANGKOK: -- The lonely dog at Rama V pier, who was seen by locals looking out over the river over the last month as if she was looking for her owner, was adopted yesterday after her photo went viral.

Facebook user Thanawan Thongporn, whose original online post about the dog went viral, posted an update last night that the dog had moved into to her new home.

The dog was reportedly separated from her owner when she fell from their boat a month ago. Every day she would sit at the pier and look out over the Chao Phraya river like she was looking out for her home.

That's a lovely Mah Thai. I would've taken her. Most loyal dog there is. Happy to learn she has a new home. Perhaps more exposure of the many dogs needing new homes would be a good idea. Makes me angry when I see those posting asking where to buy pedigrees = puppy farms. BTW, that guy breeding Mah Thais up in Chiang Mai should be locked up for animal cruelty.

Only about a million sad soi dogs to go then- putting most of them down hopefully. One oh look at his little face story makes zero difference to the enormous, and ignored stray dog problem here. This one was probably dumped of course like so many others.

Yes may well have been dumped. So why not put down the owner rather than the dog ?

Tell me what right do you have to life over that of a dog or any other creature ?

By the look of the photo in the merc, looks like the new owner muzzled the dog, hopefully it won't be a permanent fitting

Probably just to get it home in the car in case it freaked out

Because you would have about a million murders on your hands and it's a sill thing to suggest. What right do people have to eat animals and pretend that they care about them?

I am glad the dog can not post to TVF...as the forum seems to have gone to the dogs on this posting...

People are generally garbage. Animals much nicer

You don't eat them then? Soi dog problem is massive and will not be solved by soppy stories like this or rescue and spaying do gooders, that's a drop in the ocean. They need culling and now otherwise rabies epidemics are unavoidable

I see if you kill a person its murder if you kill a dog it isn't.

Tell you what lets put you in a cage with a pit bull, no weapons, lets see whos number 1 then.

Poor dog gets new owner

BANGKOK: -- The 3-year-old female dog, which is widely known as "Nam Tarn" on the social media after she was seen everyday sitting, waiting and staring across the Chao Phraya river desperately from the Rama 5 pier for over a month looking for its owner to return and pick her up back home after falling off from a tugboat, now has her new owner who is a construction contractor.

The sad story of the brown dog caught the attention of boat commuters using the Rama 5 pier when she was seen sitting at the pier every day with her eyes looking over the river as if she were looking for something.

Later a commuter, Thanawan Thongporn, posted on his Facebook with photos of the poor and lonely dog asking anyone who could recognise or possibly its owner to come and pick her back home.

A little clue to the dog given by residents living near the pier said she dropped from a tug boat over a month ago and fortunately she managed to swim across the strong current of the river to the pier safely. Then she was seen everyday sitting at the same place, staring at passing tugboats hoping to see her owner back to pick her up.

After the posting, her sad story went viral with many voicing sympathy on the dog and many coming and giving her food.

Those who have arrived and seen her also posted they could hardly stop the tears in seeing the desperate dog waiting with her sad eyes looking towards the river.

Her presence at the same day and same place attracted the lady tycoon who declared to adopt her but also was ready to return her to owner.

Nam Tarn was later helped to move from the Rama 5 pier to new home at Baan Bang Khem village, Khao Yoi district of Phetchaburi province.

She also was given a new name as “Tha Rua”, the name derived from the pier or Tha Rua where she was first spotted.

Her new owner Ms Natpirin Pakornkiat recalled the day she learned of the dog’s sad story.

“I found out about the dog on Facebook and I didn’t believe the story at first. But when I came to the pier to see with my own eyes, it’s true.”

She said the way the dog looked towards the water struck her heart, and prompted her to speak to herself “I must bring her back home with me and take care of her.”

She said when she tried to approach him for the first time he was quite aggressive, prompting charity workers coming to help having to put on a muzzle to prevent him from harming her.

She said that when she tried to pet him yesterday and told him that she wanted to take care of him, Tha Rua understood and became much friendlier.

The dog now lives happily at her home as she could get along well with all family members and is accustomed to new environment.

She also promised that she will try to update Tha Rua’s progress as often as she can through the social media and if her previous owner came across this and wanted her back, “I’m more than happy to return Tha Rua to its rightful owner..”

Sad but true. I love my dogs much more than the human detritus that live around me.

In my opinion there is far to much hypocrisy with animal rights and especially dogs. NO animals need to be, or should be killed for food but all soi dogs need to be eradicated. Anyone who claims to love animals but who eats them is deluding themselves, just as much as this soppy dog story ignores the problems these animals pose.

There are over 25,000 road deaths a year in Thailand. Dogs don't drive cars.

Thailand has one of the worlds worst gun death rates. Dogs don't fire guns.

Thousands of people a year are killed in Knife crimes. Dogs don't hold knives.

Are you sure you are looking in the right area ?

Many accidents are caused by soi dogs parked in the road, they bite, bark, shit all over the place and spread rabies as in Korat at the moment. So one dog in the story has a new home what about the million + other pests?

It's not the Soi dogs that should be put down.......

As usual outrage and the sound of posters choking on their meat at the suggestion that soi dogs should be culled, yet no other answers put forward for the problem, and it is one here. Forget the it's not the dogs it;s the owners- there are none or the almost totally ineffective spaying and adopting nonsense, the problem is way beyond that. The leave the likkle doggies alone brigade of course soon change their tune when one of the family gets savaged by one of these pests.

What utter nonsense you spout.

So what about the parents that leave their kids home alone and don't give a damn what they get up to. Take the GTA kids who beat up 3 old men. There are kids growing up all over Thailand like those. For you that isn't a problem but those dogs are.

I wonder if you are more likely to die at the hands of a fellow human in Thailand or the paws of a dog.
