My Thai girlfriend came to UK for 2 weeks over Xmas on a UK tourist visa and I would like her to come here again in May for my sisters wedding. Her UK tourist visa expires about 2 weeks before she would come, so my question is, would she be able to extend it somehow or does she need to apply all over again.

Many thanks in advance

It was for 6 months but I'm not sure if it was a single or multi entry.

It doesn't really matter if it were single or multi entry, she needs to apply for a new one.

Don't fall into the trap of assuming that a second visa is a slam dunk, take as much care as in the first application, affordability, reasons to return and the like.

The ECO may well be wondering why she's applying for a second visa so soon, so explain like you have in this post.

Also mention the first visa and say that she only spent two weeks with you over the Christmas period.

Good advice given above! Don't take anything for granted as the ECO will happily find fault and refuse a poorly considered application.

Big, big, good point is the previous visa was used for a visit and not a longer stay. Followed all the rules and kept to the plan. A good travel history together with a sound application should make this straight forward. Provide evidence that the wedding is taking place!!

Thought you can only get a visa six months out of twelve, then have to wait another six months before applying for another,

Sorry you thought wrong.

There is a convention that a visa national can only spend six months in the UK in a twelve month period, and whilst this convention isn't enshrined in law, you would need pretty compelling reasons to exceed it. There is no rule or convention which would prevent an applicant from applying for a second visa so quickly, as in the circumstances the OP describes..
