Help obtaining GTIN #

I run a small manufacturer company. An overseas customer is asking for GTIN in order to sell products on ebay and Amazon. I've read up on this a little, it doesn't seem overly difficult, but is still pretty confusing. Apparently part of the codes can be bought on ebay and then the rest is assigned by the manufacturer. Does anybody have experience obtaining GTINs? Thanks in advance.
