Ubuntu Smartphones

Featured Replies

The latest smartphone to be running Ubuntu has been announced, the Meizu Pro 5.

Has anyone here used an Ubuntu phone yet? This one will retail at, I guess, close to $500. I'm keen to pick one up in Europe when I go home in the summer. Anyone had experience connecting an Ubuntu phone to the networks here? Anyone have any thoughts?

My reasons for buying are to escape the data grab by Google, and because my main uses on the phone are calling, skype, camera, web browsing and Line, all of which I'm fairly certain the Ubuntu phones can do.

I read about that today also here. The Meizu pro 5 is definitely a good phone and running it with Ubuntu is an exciting option. I also agree with your reason for wanting to ditch Android/Google. It sounds like the biggest drawback is that there are not many apps available to chose from for Ubuntu.

I'm keeping my eye on this one too!

Had an imobile i904 that ran linux. It was one of the first touchscreens at the time. I even got one for the GF but they failed after the first year.

You can install it yourself on your android phone, but if you mess it up you'll probably brick it.
