Colposcopy in Bangkok

Featured Replies

Hi

Im needing to get a colposcopy (gynecological procedure) done in Bangkok as last year I had HPV and had a Leep done so I need a check up.

I got a quote from Bumrungrad Hospital which was around 1500us dollars which is 5 times more of what I paid in Australia so Im looking for other hospitals whith english speaking doctors and more reasonable prices.

I dont mind if is male or female doctor. Just a good one with good english.

Thank you so much for your help.

Above answer seems to talkabout colonoscopy

OP is asking about colposcopy which is expensive in Thailand. But 1500 USD used to be Bumrungrads price for Leep, not just colposcopy. Are you sure there is no misunderstanding?

Samitivej charged until about 2 or 3 years ago something like 8000 THB for colposcopy, and the price didn't change much over the years.

Ask for Dr Panon.

I know someone who had this done at Phaya Thai and it was nowhere near $1500. Phaya Thai has three branches throughout BKK. I would recommend checking out the one closest to you. It is not really a "cheap" hospital, but far cheaper than Bumrungrad. There will be no problem finding a Dr. who speaks good English as it is an international hospital.

Off topic posts referring to colonoscopy have been removed. (not sure if the last post also refers to colonoscopy, it may).

Colposcopy is an entirely different procedure involving a different medical specialty.

Bumrungrad's prices have risen dramatically in last few years such that it is now much more costly than other "top tier international" hospitals.

I wholeheartedly second the recommendation for Dr. Panon at Samitivej. I don't know what it will cost but nothing like the cost you got from Bumrungrad (which may indeed have included Leep, but is still high).

Dr. Panon is a specialist in gyn oncology and did stints at the mayo Clinic and Harvard/Brigham in the US.

The final cost will depend on whether samples are taken for biopsy and if so how many, but I would expect it to be more like US $500 than $1,500. Can certainly be done for even less if you shop around but the test is only as useful as the skill of the doctor doing it. No point in having it done if the doctor doing it isn't certain to make an accurate diagnosis.

Hi

Just to let you know my final desition. After asking for quotes to all mayor private hospitals what I got was:

From 2.000 to 8.000 baths for a Pap smear

From 18.000 to 30.000 for colposcopy

The most overpriced health care I have seen in the world!

I finally went to the Thai Red Cross and got the Pap Smear for 300 baths and a quote for colposcopy (if needed) of just 500 baths!!!

Private hospitals are real thefs, worst than tuk tuk drivers and travel agencies!

If anyone interested, The Thai Redcross research center is very close to Lumpini Park and they deal with all sexually transmited disseases. Service is great and doctors speak decent english.

Thanks for this. It did not occur to me to suggest the Thai red Cross, since their primary focus is STDs/HIV, but of course thee tests are often needed by HIV+ women.

I believe the quotes you got for colposcopy from private hospitals but the Pap smear sounds way off. Even at the most expensive hospital in Bangkok (Bumrungrad) it is under 3,000 baht. Maybe add 1,000 for the doctor fee, still doesn't get anywhere near to 8,000. Makes me wonder whether the people you asked understood what you meant. Whom did you contact at these hospitals and how? (Note that hospital International Patient Services-type departments are always best avoided and will inflate costs).

Anyhow glad you got what you needed.
