Importing a defibrillator.

Featured Replies

I want to import a defibrillator. The small auto units that you find in airports, shopping malls etc.

In Thailand they cost approx 120k but average 45k in U.K or U.S.

Does anyone know if there is a law that prohibits the import of such items ? I would try to bring it either as hand luggage or checked in.

Something like this

Bringing it in with you as accompanied baggage is not likely to run into problems. Having it delivered through the mail or (much worse) by a courier could run into all sorts of delays with customs asking for electrical safety certificates from some govt dept, FDA approval and all manner of other things.

...until it is realised that you have an undeclared piece of equipment that you're importing illegally, then you could run into all sorts of delays with customs asking for electrical safety certificates from some govt dept, FDA approval and all manner of other things.

A defibrillator in the baggage is sure to attract the attention of the x-ray screening technician at the airport.

I don't know any reason why they wouldn't be. In fact some airlines carry them in their emergency kits. As with any electronic device it should not be on during take of or landing, but then you aren't going to need to have it on (hopefully) during the flight at all.

When you go through the security check they will likely ask what it is and have you take it out and show them. The only problem I can foresee is if you depart fro ma place where they are unfamiliar with the concept and suspect it of being an explosive.
