Surely this is just a big joke, right?

Turning Hua Hin into a "Coney Island" is just what Thailand needs.

What is this obsession with "Wild Animal Parks", "Giant Aquariums" and "Disneylands"?

Do they think that tourist will be drawn to Thailand by ferris wheels and rollercoasters and people dressed up in animal costumes?

Yes I recall the Isaan Disneyland rumour.

Note though, this is not necessarily a Disney project. Disney's name might not be anywhere near it, and if it is Disney's lawyers will be all over it.

I think it is remarkably timely. Folks under 25 will need something to keep them occupied, and the staff can be composed entirely from out of work beer girls.

Admission tickets will be called "visas" and after 3 hours in the park you wont be allowed in for another 3.

This also will help alleviate the pressure on the parks infrastructure as no washrooms have been planned for the fairgrounds.

while foreigners will be allowed to purchase tickets, they will not be guaranteed admission to any of the rides unless a clear 51 percent thai ridership has been established.

I took my wife and kids recently to Hong Kong Disneyland. If I were living in Australia or Taiwan or somewhere like that and had there been a choice at the time of HK or Thailand I would have chosen Hua Hin as Thailand is cheaper than HK. I agree with you though that Hua Hin is not the best location - how about Min Buri? Just kiddin' - sort of..

Don't forget to add that it will probably involve a 2 tier pricing system. Thai citizens paying one price while foreigners pay another, higher price.

Although it would be nice if they spent some time and energy on maintenance and renovations on the existing theme parks in BKK before building any new ones. I have had the safety belts snap open in the middle of rides at both suan siam and dreamworld and had to hold on for my life to not fall out...

In the not to distant past (30+ yrs) I enrolled at San Fernando Valley State College in California. Approximately 3 miles from campus was the Anheuser Bush brewery complete with a "Bush Gardens" where after the tram ride which was free, you were able to stroll through the gardens to the Beer pavilions and sample the different brews for free!

After my disaterous first semester, I solved my academic problems by not scheduling any classes after 12 noon, which might interfere with my Bush Gardens beer tasting.......

I just asked (tongue in cheek) my Thai fiance, who works at Disney here in California, and is from the Hua Hin /Cha Am area. She laughed a lot, then said "really??".

She offered to ask around at work today, but I told her to never mind.

I think she will still ask around, hopefully the folks will be kind.

As usual, Britmaveric, one liner's that are right to the point. That is the million dollar question. Attorneys tell me that damages awarded in liability lawsuits in Thailand are peanuts. Hence, from the amusement park's standpoint, there is little incentive to spending a lot of money on maintenance. The only thing I am ever comfortable with when my kid goes to an amusement park here is feeding the farm animals.

I cannot imagine Hua Hin becoming commercialised as HRH the King adores this area and spends a lot of time there because is it quiet and HRH loves his dogs to.

I heard this too, somewhere behind Khao Chee Chan (Big Buddha Mountain). The weird thing is that my aunt in Minnesota heard it too.

I don't think it's gonna happen, but wouldn't surprise me....................The guy that owns silverlake vineyards is expanding like mad!

I totally agree. That is the big reason why Hua Hin,Cha Am will never become another Pattaya and is why it is the preferred place for upper class Thai's in Bangkok to spend a weekend.
