Wrangler Engine warning light, help please.

Featured Replies

Hi All, my Jeep wrangler is showing an engine warning light, code PO706, transmission range sensor circuit, range or performance problem.

The Jeep drives and performs ok, oil levels ok, also changed automatic transmission gear box oil and filter 10000 kilometers ago.

Can any one throw any light on this problem, how to rectify the problem, or who can effect a repair.

I stay in Pattaya, could travel to Chonburi Bangkok.

Thank you.

Tom

Possibly a false code or could be a turbine or speed/distance sensor - possibly another sensor....You can try clearing the code - disconnect the + cable for half hour to an hour .....Reconnect and drive - it might have to cycle through adaptive strategy once you start and drive to reset parameters - 30-40k continuous driving....

If the code comes back it's a hard code and will need attention.....

What does this mean?

OBD Code P0706refers to

The park/neutral position (PNP) switch includes a transmission range switch. The transmission range switch detects the selector lever position when the shift lever is in the N or P shift position and sends a signal to the Transmission Control Module (TCM).

Symptoms

Possible sumptoms of OBD code P0706

- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)

Causes

Possible causes of OBD code P0706

- Open or short park/neutral position switch circuit - Poor park/neutral position switch circuit connection - Misadjusted park/neutral position switch - Park/neutral position switch may be faulty The Error code is generally activated on detection of the following conditions: The transmission range switch detects the selector lever position and sends a signal to the TCM

Hi Thank's for the information, have reset the Warning with the ODB computer, but it reappears after 1 minute of driving.

Could this could have happened when the Jeep was being driven by another, possibly trying to disengage from park to another gear selection without pressing the brake pedal?.

Thank you.

Regards Tom

That is a possibilty if they gave it a bunch of good tugs - no cars are over built anymore.....

Sounds like it could be just an adjustment.....

Hi does any one know of a work shop in or around Pattaya, Chonburi or maybe Bangkok who would be able to make a repair.

Thank's.

Might want to start a new thread with that request....The Jeep/code on this thread might dissuade people from reading/following it......

I had a Dodge RAM 1500 pickup that had a check engine light come on. This was back in the days when error codes were something that only mechanics with quite expensive technology were able to diagnose. After a dealer service, inspection and reset, the light was off. About 3000 miles later, the automatic transmission catastrophically failed in the parking lot of an Olive Garden restaurant. The transmission shop did a rebuild that cost me a (relative) arm and leg. They mentioned that a secondary trigger of the 'check engine' light a few months earlier was very probably automatic transmission related and overlooked by the Dodge/Jeep/Chrysler service guys who were looking for the obvious. They further said that the oversight was quite common.

Sell the Jeep, buy a Ford.

Maybe if you'd never went to Olive Garden.....? Thought they went belly up.....

Hi All, finally fixed the warning light problem, on first encountering the problem, I sprayed all the gear box wires and connections a number of times but to no avail, with WD40, but I did the same again to day, paying more attention to The Transmission Range Sensor, pulling on the wires, the warning light is now out.

This Jeep Wrangler was imported into Thailand in 2004, I have had 3 years trouble free service, turn the key, start and you are on your way, the big lazy 6 cylinder engine, effortlessly and quietly, takes you over almost any terrain, doing 6.75 km liter on LPG.

Thank you for your time and help.

Regards Tom

Might have already done this doing that - but one test usually done when an area of wiring or switches is isolated by the code = wiggle test & checking the plugs etc.....Possibly you had dust accumulated somewhere there the WD40 cleaned out with the spray.....

Glad you got it handled.....

Hi, I also am no longer going to have the underside cleaned with a pressure washer, when I get The Jeep cleaned, think this had also a lot to do with this.
