Buying Screens For Doors And Windows

Featured Replies

I am in need of screens for windows, a couple of sliding doors, and two "regular" doors. I will be looking for anodized aluminum if possible. I would appreciate any suggestions about how much I should expect to pay, are there any particular brands suggested, and any ideas for companies in the Pimai area. I have recently built a home..unfortunately I did not realize screens were an "option" on my present windows and doors ( who woulda thought with the virtual Air Force that attacks at sundown)

An idea on price for one window of average size, and the cost of a slider, and regular door would be great...before asking my contractor, I would like to have some idea....... Thanks to all :o

I had screens put on all the doors and windows in our two bedroom house. They were made special for each opening. The window frames are all aluminum, hinged and easily lifted off the hinges for cleaning or whatever. The shop that made them gave a price for the whole job. I paid 9,500 baht complete.

Added - I just counted and there are 30 screens including the double front door and the back door.

A local chap made up all my screens, again hinged (not sliding) with little plastic clips to keep them closed (the clips all broke within 3 weeks - I have replaced them). I think it was about 250 bt per window if memory serves well....

Off topic a bit: another chap fitted window grills for security - but used ordinary screws (which a burglar had no difficulty removing). I have since filled all the heads with glue, as I couldn't find security screws here).

Thanks...Did you cover any sliding doors? was there an option for sliding open/close for windows...or only the hinged type?

The front sliding door screens are permanently attached with pop rivets but could be attached with screws.

Mike,

do you have a link to what you call 'security screws'

Thanks :o

If you have sliding windows you will want sliding screens and also on doors that slide and most such items are made to order on site by contractors from shop house type places that deal with just screens. Screens are always an option here as many people use nets for sleeping and coils to keep the insects away - you get much better air flow in non air conditioned places by not using the screens.

udon: Google "security screws" and you will see many types. Have not checked but HomePro might have some type. The basic would just be a rounded slot on the counterclockwise turn so it can not be backed out without a socket type set to hold in place - but there are many much more advanced types. Most of the security grills would not last long to a pry bar in any case.

I have never seen any branded screens, but I am sure your local town will

have 2 or 3 guys who can quote for the job and show you examples of what the can fit.

The screen material can be metal or nylon and is cheap and easy to replace if they get damaged.
