W10 -hit return= new paragraph/ want only new line

Featured Replies

Another inexplicable MS program change= Hitting the Return key results in a new paragraph or 2 line space.

How to force a 1 line space as default?

Totally confused.

What SW do you refer to?

"Return" refers likely to the "Enter" key as it is labeled on most keyboards?

I bet the world would have learned if Win10 would produce false CR/LF (which "Enter" is there for).

How did you write your post which looks like two proper paragraphs?

(my empty lines come from two times "Enter")

The 'Enter' or 'Return' key has always been CR/LF on windows machines.

The line spacing is determined by the program/application.

If using a word processor applications then this and other formatting elements are determined in the CSS or Style Sheets ...meaning that if you don't like the line spacing then you can alter the formatting in the Style Sheet for the document.

'New Line' can usually be produced using a Shift-Enter ...if that's really what you need. Just know that 'New Line' sentences are usually treated as a single formatted paragraph block.

He probably means in MS Word where the default "Normal" style is double spaced. You have to use the "Normal no spacing" style (or similar name not near a computer now).

KHUNB you're totally right. I was sloppy. when typing SW I used to German expression for black and white. Will check all of your other answers. Hitting the Enter resulted in double spacing in Gmail only .
