I would add .. that all drivers should have passed a test , be sober , drive under the speed limit and not like maniacs ...

They seem to employ young guys that think they are in an F1 race ..

I got a lift once from Surat to Samui on a minivan and was terrified .. The guy driving was overtaking when he no idea what was coming in the opposite direction .. and when told just laughed .. Never again !

This should also apply to any pickups and any vans that are transporting tourists including the Safari trucks that always seem to be racing ..

Thailand tightens traffic law enforcement at major tourist destinations

'Police will step up enforcement of the rules for motorists and motorcyclists at Pattaya, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Ko Samui, Phuket, Hat Yai, Samut Prakan and Ayutthaya, according to the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT).

The move is part of a broader effort to improve safety and security across the country.

The key traffic no-nos that will be enforced are as follows:

  • driving on the pavement
  • driving without a license
  • driving against the traffic/not giving way to pedestrians at crossings
  • driving without wearing a seatbelt/helmet
  • careless or inconsiderate driving
  • driving under the influence/driving while intoxicated
  • illegal car accessorising
  • parking in a prohibited space

Thailand's Tourist Police can be contacted on hotline 1155.'

A few days ago a pickup with all lights smashed & with the appearance of having completely rolled over was being driven erratically towards Naton in darkness with me a safe distance behind it. The driver appeared to be drunk. Not until I was able to pass the vehicle did I realize it was in fact in full Police Livery(!)....

They might as well ask Dracula to audit a blood bank smile.png
