Fitting an USB port to a Honda Civic (2009)

Featured Replies

I've looked long and hard for a USB port in my Honda Civic but it would appear there isn't one. There is a CD player and AUX. I would like to play music from a USB thumb drive.

How easy would it be to add a USB port if it is even possible? I've seen this on Lazada but really don't know if its the right part or how easy it would be to attach it.

Thanks

The cable on Lazada... you would need to know if your existing stereo "head unit" is capable of USB connected devices, and has the connector somewhere behind the dashboard that the cable can connect to.

Does your head unit have any buttons or controls marked for USB? Does it have a USB or WMA logo on it?

175 Baht for the cable isn't a bank breaker- order it and take it to a stereo shop Ask if they can connect it.

If none of the above, then I would suggest that you will need a new aftermarket head unit that is USB capable / has a USB plug on it.

Thanks for the replies.

I looked in the box between the seats after researching online but nothing there.

How much for an aftermarket head unit?

I think what I might do is try to find a car stereo shop and ask what they can do, failing that I would have to make do with an MP3 player connected to the AUX.

Price will vary- cheap Chinese product to the high end top name brands, depending on the features and functionalities of the unit.

I'd replace the radio with one that has a USB port on the front panel, provided the Civic does not have a Honda-specific radio fitted to the dashboard. For my stone-age Astra I got one years ago for about 3000 Baht including a nice set of speakers.

One more possibility: Get one of these rf transmitters with a USB port and a cardreader which fits to the 12V-Connector. Tune it to a unused frequency and tune your radio to that frequency. The one pictured below came even with a remote!
