Residence Cert. for Drivers licence renewal

Recommended Posts

Hi,

My 5yr driving licence expired late last year and I have not got around to renewing it yet (not been driving), I know I need the residence Certificate from immigration to do this.

We rent a house but do not have any rental agreement, if I knock up a letter and get the house owner to sign if would that be good enough for immigration in Phuket? also I am 99.9% sure that the owner will not have notified that a foreigner is staying in her property, would immigration want that done before giving me the residence certificate, they didn't 5 years ago? I have been staying here on a non O multi entries so dont do any 90 day reports or have any dealings with the imm in Phuket.

Are there any alternative ways than using the immigrations residence certificate to get my licence, british consulate?

Thanks

This last year Immigration have been inisting that a foreigner has been registered by the housemaster.

So it's best you get your landlord to register you. Also you will need copies of the housemaster's ID and house paper (Tabian Baan).

Rental agreement is also useful, but not essential.

in our local amphur office i saw a sign they provide said certificate also have read posts about police stations have also provided confirmation

you could try might get lucky i dont know which embassy you use but uk certainly will do

once you have made an appointment and made yourself 2000 bht lighter

I needed:
Copy of rental agreement.
Copy of tenant's govt. ID (Signed by him)

Don't remember if I needed a picture or not.

Pretty sure this is one that there is no charge for.
But they sometimes try.

Ask at the volunteer's desk and if they try, just say you thought it was free.

Good luck.
That drivers license renewal place can be as much a hassle as immigration sometimes.

I think you have to be there at 8:30 AM (and only have a half hour window or something like that)
One girl seems to do 90% of the work while the other 20 people who work there are checking their phones.

Thanks, thought I may have to do this, not sure thatour elderly landlord is up to it but I will contact with immigration to check exactly what I need, I did see an email contact for a Phuket Immigration volunteer a few days ago, can't seem to find it now, if anyone has it can you PM me please?

Thats interesting and may solve a problem, assuming licencing accepts it. Which Amphur did you see it, is it the main place in Phuket Town where you do Thai id cards, marriage regsitration etc ?

Quite sure Phuket police would send you to Phuket Immigration.

Doubt whether the Phuket Honorary Consul could issue any paper. You would need to go to Bangkok Embassy.

Usual quite a queue by 08.30, but enough time to get processed by the 10.00 English video presentation. That lasts until 11.30, expect to wait until after lunch to have new license in hand.

Is it possible to renew a 5year license as long as 6 weeks before it actually expire.

Thanks

Felt

The OP's license already expired. So long as he renews before 1 year he won't to take the driving test again (and wait a couple of months's for a time slot to take the test)

If you get there before 08.00am and get into the 9.00am video you can get your licence before lunch.......I got there at 8:15am and just missed out ....had to wait an hour for the 10am video which was a mixed Thai and English class and then had to wait until 1:30pm to get my licence.

Are you sure about that ? As far as I know the only morning English presentation is at 10.00

6 months ago I was waiting by 09.30 outside the 2 video rooms and both were in Thai ...

Yes, also that one, but was not operational last time I was there.

Depth perception test was operational last year. Looks like the reaction and colour test all combined to a call out of changing traffic light colour.

Thanks for the help, we will try the local amphur, dont hold much hope but its worth a try,

Another option is to use the house book as I think the DLT will accept that, I (think) could get my name onto the house book for a house that my wife owns but its in a different province do you think Phuket DLT would accept that?

Hello - I am confused by the responses in this topic: registration by housemaster, watching a movie, specified times to be processed etc.

I went to drivers license office that is near Mo Chit BTS. The first time I went, about 6-yrs ago, I presented my passport, a notarized form from Embassy that I had a valid drivers license in the States and a medical cert from my Dr. After that, I was taken to a room where I looked at those colored balls detecting colorblindness. Next sat in a 'drivers chair' where my reaction time to red lights was determined. From there to a chair outside 2 cubicles where the officers were issuing the actual drivers license (BTW these 2 cubicles had only Westerners, Thai people waited in a different section). When my name was called the officer verified my paperwork, took my pic and I was out of there in under an hour with a D/L with 1-year expiry.

My second time at this office was a year later when my license was about to expire. This time, I went with nothing except my passport as I didn't know what to bring for a renewal. Turns out I didn't anything but the passport. The lady at reception desk looked things over then sent me to sit near the same 2 cubicles I'd sat near a year earlier. My name was called, officer looked things over, I signed the form that becomes the D/L and within 5-minute I was out with a 5-year drivers license.

(Does anyone know what the time frame is for applying for a renewal as the expiration date approaches?)

So, I am totally confused about those other items mentioned in this post. Any clarification? Thanks

The main difference might be that this is Phuket, and your experience was in Bangkok. Just like Immigration, rules, procedures and requirements can vary from one province to the next.

As for renewing a driving license, you can renew up to one year after expiration without having to take the road and written tests. In any event, you must always watch a video and pass the reaction and color tests when renewing a license. At least that's the rule in Phuket.

And also proof of address is also a legal requirement.

I suspect that Mo Chit does not deal with many foreigners and don't really know the rules.

I stopped by Immigration and asked the other day, (ground floor) and at first got the message that if my address was registered from last year I needed only my passport, copy passport main page and copy visa, and fill in the form and I could get the residence certificate. Uplifted over one less hurdle I went quickly home found my passport, filled the form and took a couple of copies of the passport. When I returned I got the message that I needed the slip from the housemaster address registration, which I unfortunately cant find....... and well I thought for a moment that Immigration had this on file...so guess I have to register again and do it all over sad.png

Maybe you will find this slip in the back of your passport. Normaly they staple it in there like in my passport.

I find your comment very confusing. I suspect you are referring to the 90 day notification which might depend on official registration by the housemaster but is not the house registration 'slip'.

In fact there is no house registration 'slip' available to the guest or rentor. I well know this as I as a 'company' housemaster register my guests and there is no provision in the online website to have a print-out.

In recent months many of my guests applying for long stay extension or DLs have asked me to provide proof of house registration. The best I can do is provide a screen shot of the house registration from the Immigration data base website. This seems to work Ok for my guests.

I dont have to do 90 days reports.

Last year Feb. they stable the slip, the receipt of noticication of alien's address in my passport.

Till now it works for me fine to get RC with this slip.

Also had the old one many years inside before they replaced it with the new one last year.

I am even more confused. Who exactly is the 'they' who staple this slip to your passport last year ?

You don't do the 90 day report, so you leave Thailand every 90 days ?

Then you don't need to deal with Immigration on a regular basis ...

They = immigration officers in phuket town

I only go there in the last decade when i need new RC. Sometimes 2 RC in a year or sometimes they not see my face for 5 years.

Yes i leave every 60-90 days.
