Replacing a broken floor tile

Featured Replies

I dropped a heavy object on my floor tile and chipped it. It is a regular tile (the place costs 5k a month) but I'm not sure how big of a job it is to replace just 1 or 2 tiles?

Does the whole floor need to be taken out?

Should I notify my landlord immediately? Or is this something to be brought up during the move out? I will be here for at least another year. The chipped tile doesn't bother me.

If anyone has done a job like this I'd appreciate feedback on what this will cost me, thanks.

As a tenant personally I would consider it a move out issue. It's not like a leak needing timely action.

If you do it yourself and it's not a match don't bother.

Easy to do. Difficult to find the tile though.

Even if you find the same tile it may be a different shade. When you buy tiles there is a lot number on the side. Same lot, same shade.

One tile is a real nuisance job and very hard to replace correctly. If you kept the chipped pieces probably simplest to use very thin coat of clear (no color) construction adhesive (follow directions) and stick back together.

Maybe I'm using the wrong word when I say it's chipped. Here is the damage:

The right one is the real issue, you can feel the indent when you step on it. The left is superficial.

Is there any good coverup for something like this?

It would be far easier to repair the existing damage than to replace the whole tiles.

You should be able to fill in the chips so that they are unable to be spotted at a glance quite easily.

Ok I'll try to find some nail varnish for this, thanks.

Silicone sealant will be better.............thumbsup.gif

Ask management. sometimes, they have old paint and tiles in warehouse. OR your landlord may have too.
