Hello.

I'm having a very uncomfortable problem at the moment which would appear to be Varicoceles.

http://www.drugs.com/mcd/varicocele

I'm completely at a loss as to where I should go to get this checked out. A few thai friends have suggested Sukhumvit Hospital as I'm not far from there.

I don't know if there'd be a specific place specialising in this 'area' or if there's a better quality hospital in Bangkok anyone would recommend?

Thanks for your time

I don't want to scare you but do visit a doctor ASAP if you have a lump down there.

It could be something worse. And I know what's I'm talking about, believe me...

Don't waste too much time trying to find out which place is best. Go to any place that can schedule you for a testicular echography ASAP.

thanks for the prompt answers

johnatong with the specifics and lannig for the kick up the arse I needed to get out of bed and down to Bumrungrad

(I'd made an appointment and I was there by the time you answered Sheryl)

the doc assured me it's nothing to worry about, the only problem is the bloody pain

they took a fair chunk of money off me for tests, pain killers and antibiotics and I'm back again tomorrow for the ultrasound and hopefully the final all clear and some solid advice

the hospital was nice and seemingly much more efficient than the one I use back home in England

thanks again for the advice, I owe you all a drink

If the ultrasound confirms a varicocele it will probably require treatment. Ask your surgeon about the options and the cost(s)

Expenditure can be reduced by opting for (good) treatment at other hospitals.

Ask here when the diagnosis is confirmed.

If I found a lump on my nut sack I wouldn't be wasting time asking on here, I would be straight to the doctors. Wait too long and they may have to lop off your sack.

Those who make crude comment should visit a vet.

OK, so, shock, my self diagnosis was slightly off

No varicocele were found, instead I have 'a few' cysts on my epididymes heads

2-3mm sized in the right and 3-5mm in the left, which is slightly odd because it's the right side that's painful

The doctor said surgery wouldn't be needed and it's 'normal' and he mentioned a 'small infection' being found

He told me to double up on the antibiotics and pain killers so 10 days instead of 5, which I was told I could find from a local pharmacy instead of the hospital to save on costs

Johnatong, do you think the pain is a result of the infection? I did acquire a slight burn after unprotected sex 2 weeks ago which I took a course of zithromax for. Could this just be the lasting effects from this?

What would you recommend if I'm still in pain after the 10 days? Would I be right to assume abstaining from ejaculating may spur the healing along?

I'm definitely feeling better but that may be the results of the pain killers, hopefully I'm on the mend

I've been prescribed 10 x 90mg Arcoxia and 20 x 500mg Ciprobay

Thanks again for your time

The cysts are likely to be 'normal' and just an incidental finding.

I would advise you to follow the Dr's instruction and to avoid alcohol and any unprotected sex.

If you self treated the the earlier problem then this could well be an on going infection which has been inadequately treated previously.

Did the Dr. suggest or undertake a full STD screen ?

The pain is certainly due to the infection, as per above the cysts are unimportant (though useful if they got you to see a doctor!).

Self-treatment of STDs is a very bad idea, especially in Thailand where there is a lot of drug resistance.

Complete the antibiotic course prescribed. HIV and Hep B tests would also be a good idea, can be gotten very inexpensively at the Thai red Cross Anonymous clinic

No sex until the pain/burning has cleared. And use condoms from here on.

OK, thanks

That's a relief and a disappointment in one

I've never caught anything before and I had a flight to catch that day so I naively followed my friend's nonchalant advice rather than the logical route of getting tested

So we're assuming the antibiotics will clear the STD?

I'll get down the Red Cross once the 'window period' is over

Time will tell re the antibiotics. As we do not even know what type of ingection you have, can't say more than that.

Glad to hear that your diagnosis wasn't something more serious than that.

What I would do is just eat health and stay clean for a month to see if there are any improvements.
I know it's hard here in BKK, but for your health you MUST!

Also, after I had a problem elsewhere on my body I rushed to get insurance just in case something serious does happen. No illness, but it sure did help with my motorcycle accident.

Cheers Mate and hope all goes well :)

While the post above seems like a joke, Im actually being serious....if you can ejaculate with the same sensation that you had before your infection, it means the prostate is not affected. If it feels different, painful or uncomfortable your prostate will let you know...acute prostatitis is no fun. 3 months of antibiotics with no coffee, alcohol, spicy food allowed.

Plus, ejaculation might remove any bacteria that are floating around the area.

Do I have scientific proof of this?

No...but it sure is fun finding out.
