Thai Driving Licence - New Driver

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I'm British but do not have any driving licence (not even a British one).

I want to get a driving licence in Thailand. How do I do it?

You don't state where you are. Most places differ suggest you pop into your local licence place and ask what they require.

You will more than likely have to have a test 'practical & oral via a comp:' the same as any Thai.

Tip take a Thai speaker with you if it's like the one I use there wont be any bugger there that speaks any form of English.

Best of luck.

Do you want to do a car license, motorbike license or both?

What is your visa/extension status? (one year extension? tourist visa? Non O visa?).

Makes a difference for getting the proof of residence which is always required for the paperwork.

Getting paperwork - proof of residence in particular - is often the bigger hurdle than the tests tongue.png

Also some DLT offices have a long queue for appointment.

Varies much from place to place.

I had to wait three weeks to get my appointment (two days/sessions for motorcyle license from scratch).

Basic info is found here incl. preparation for theory test in English:

You will always find conflicting infos as the paperwork req. are also slightly different from one DLT to another.

Indeed best to check with "your" office first.

Any office can be used.
