Never heard of either the two names on Samui... and rumors... never! laugh.png

but good old Google comes up with this.... in, Plai Lam

The other looks like down in the SW corner,

Perhaps a classic misspell? of Tanode ?

Seems like the Plai Leam marina – Mai Gan Cape? – is the one by Deva Resort, with two long piers sticking out behind Big Buddha:

The other one in above link can be the beach down South by road 4170, where they have a number of long-tail-boats for tourists and a few speed boats, on Google Map there is also a point marked as "Koh Samui Pier" further to the West.

Soi 3 Plai Leam in the area of the temple, It is a rather primitive sort of marina right now and from time to time gets some very nice boats tied up there.

The Plai Laem Pier is in the middle óf a bay. But a cape is mostly at the end of a Bay. And so is Laem Mai Kaen. Laem means cape in Thai. And if Mai Gan Cape should mean in reality Laem Mai Kaen, it is between Bang Rak Beach and Bophut Beach.

The pic with the speed boats is definately the boat anchorage and jetty off Soi 3 Plai Laem, nowhere near Bohput

I've heard some of my Thai friends refer to the headland opposite Replay as Mai Kaen (excuse my attempt at spelling), could it be here that they are talking about?

I think Replay is several kms away from where the marina is, one needs to head past the turning for the airport and where the market is... Seatran terminal etc... can't remember how far! facepalm.gif

I sure someone will correct me if I am wrong! smile.png

The tip between Bangrak and Bophut beach is called Mai Kaen. It also makes sense to build a marina there as deep waters are near and the land is still undeveloped. The area around the Seatran ferry port and everything West of it is all fully developed, so too expensive to utilize. And all the waters East of it are way too shallow. They will have too dredge a large portion to get too deep water. So Mai Kaen certainly would make sense.

There is good reason why it remains undeveloped. The area used to be a tin mine and the whole cape is riddled with mine shafts making it unstable and dangerous.
