Looking for an in dash GPS that works well. From what I have read many people are not high on in dash. Maybe a Garmin based unit?

Looking for the following attributes:

  1. In dash GPS that works well. Maybe a Garmin based unit. I have a window mount Garmin that works well.
  2. Front and rear camera recorders.
  3. Backup camera.
  4. DVD/CD/Radio

Anyone can recommend a brand and model and a shop in Bangkok?

I have a front recorder and the Garmin window mount. Those two are a pain with the wires in the way all the time. Can't see adding a backup camera as a separate unit and adding to the wiring problems. Just too much clutter.

Did a search, but info either old or does not apply.

Thanks.

I think the Kenwood dnx5330bt may meet most of your requirements.

You'll need to do a google search for shops and prices.

If you have wires all over the place it's not been done right.

My Camera's 'front and rear' are mounted near the top of the glass with the wires going through the roof lining down behind the left front pillar skirt. Then behind the dash only popping out for the cigarette power point.

Suggest you get a reputable shop to do it for you.

Having got rid of most of those wires then your window S/N shouldn't be a problem. If you mount it on the right that too can have the wire going behind the dash.

Just take off the right front pillar and that should give you access to the back of the dash. Then with a bit of faffing about you should be able to feed it through. Might have to do it from the dash first though due to the connections on the wire.

Thus saving you bundles for a dash cam.

Last time I looked into the price of a Garmin one it was over 25k and that was just for the Garmin unit + the cost of having to buy a new header set up if required. The Garmin one works off a touch screen so if your one is not a touch screen you'll be buggered from the start.

N/B If you want to know how a Dash Garmin one works well it's good much bigger screen clearer volume as the sound comes out of the car speakers. But no better than a window one for directions.

Best of luck.

Be a few months before I make a decision. Taking my better half for a trip back to the US for the first time the latter part of May. Got to budget for now. Will definitely look at the Kenwood. Don't mind spending a few bucks if the in dash will work well. But then not opposed to separate units once the wires get tucked away.

One advantage to separate units is that if one of the units goes bad, you do not have to replace the whole thing like you would with an in dash system. Maybe an in dash can be repaired easily, so maybe no worry about having to replace the whole unit. Need to do research.

Once I make a decision I will post back. Thanks.
