It may look like a strange question - no matter.

We are looking for a house to rent for 1 year. I am already doing researches on internet even though I duly noted your comments and will try and find the perfect place when in Samui (we pay a visit next month).

That been said, I saw that a number of resort propose long term rental villas. Which sounds extremely weird to me... Living in a house located in a touristic resort.

It wouldn't be my first idea/choice, but I am wondering if some of you do really live in touristic resorts. And if so, what does it look like ?

Thank you :-)

It's not weird at all. Often during low season, there are lots of good deals one can make by staying long term at a "resort". Mind you, you may have to rethink your definition of "resort" because in Thailand some property calls themselves "resort" but really doesn't look like a resort in the western world. So it is best you look carefully in the pictures to get an idea exactly how this property looks like.

The advantage of staying in a resort is that you'll get access to all their facilities such as pool, fitness room, restaurant, etc, and there's also maid cleaning service included. Long term discounted price probably won't include daily cleaning and changing of linen, but usually made only once per week.

Some resorts, their villas will be an another secluded part of their property, situated away from their hotel building, so you will get your privacy away from the crowd.

I have contacts with nearly 100 properties all over Samui, so if you haven't found your house yet, send me a PM with your requirements and perhaps I may know something suitable for you.

Also, a lot of resorts and hotels sell properties within their boundaries that offer the best of both worlds, your own home but all the services of the hotel, as and when needed. Four Seasons Mae Rim is one such place where a penthouse condo sells for THB 40 mill., Chedi Chiang Mai is another.

For local information about long term rentals, follow the advice of Mole, I know he's well versed in such things...and take a look around when you visit next month!

Not all resorts are overly transient or noisy "party places" that you (op) might imagine. wink.png

The local criteria for calling someplace a resort here is about as rigorous as the criteria for calling someplace a villa ?????

Thank you for your feedbacks. Indeed, I have to rethink a lot of my euro centered views on many things, I am working on it ;-)

@Mole, thank you for the proposal, I will PM you :-)
