IT man murdered in failed Bangkok robbery attempt

BANGKOK: -- An IT worker waiting for his girlfriend in the Lat Prao area of Bangkok was fatally stabbed by a man apparently trying to steal his motorcycle.

A member of the public intervened and stopped the theft but the man ran off reported tnamcot.

Pahonyothin police found 33 year old Naret Wangthangmee dead at the scene from a stab wound to the chest. The deceased was a worker for the Whizzwork IT company in the area.

The attack happened near the Ratchada - Lat Prao intersection. Vendors in front of a housing estate told police that they saw the victim come out of his place of work riding his red Honda Click bike and was waiting for his girlfriend. A tall man dressed in denim shirt and jeans with a mask approached him and stabbed him. A member of the public came to his assistance and prevented the theft of the bike but in the melee the attacker managed to flee.

Police intend to interview all witnesses again to ensure that it was a case of robbery. They think that the assailant fled down Lat Prao soi 36 and are concentrating their efforts in that area.

It seems Lat Phrao is the new "south Bronx". First a group of machete wielding punks kill a disabled man and now someone murders a guy to get his motorcycle (like there are not enough in BKK to steal already ?)

Police seem intent to confirm that it was a case of robbery. Presumably as the motive for the murder. Or are they pursuing a failed attempted robber or a murderer? One can never be sure.

No chance this was simply a robbery. Why choose a healthy male on a cheap bike, and fatally stab him in the chest in public with no huge effort to get the crappy bike?

Plenty of softer targets for more reward (women on Vespas etc). Much more to this story I reckon, most likely related to a girl.

Waranyoo Choomanee, 19, is brought for reenactment at the scene where he stabbed a 32-year-old engineer to death in Bangkok’s Lat Phrao district Sunday.

BANGKOK — Two weeks after he was seen stabbing a man to death on a busy Lat Phrao district street, the confessed murderer said he just wanted to take his motorcycle.

Waranyoo Choomanee, 19, was arrested Saturday in his hometown Nakhon Si Thammarat for the May 25 murder of Narate Wangthangmee, who was seen on video being stabbed to death as he waited on his parked motorcycle in front of the Baan Klang Muang community between sois Lat Phrao 23 and 25.
