junglechef Posted May 26, 2016 Posted May 26, 2016 My dog caught this in our rice field Luckily we caught him and after a little loving care the bird is fine and flew away Could someone please identify Thanks, JC
MESmith Posted May 26, 2016 Posted May 26, 2016 Looks like moorhen. We get them living in our garden, next to the fish pond. Beak looks a bit long, though.

kaptainrob Posted May 26, 2016 Posted May 26, 2016 Yes, a water hen. Quite placid and often come within a few feet of me when I'm working in the garden.
cyberfarang Posted May 26, 2016 Posted May 26, 2016 It`s a young stork. Doesn`t look very happy, hope it recovered OK.
cms22 Posted May 27, 2016 Posted May 27, 2016 "what kind of bird is this" - I clicked on this thread thinking something completely different. My brain is in my pants!
Estrada Posted May 27, 2016 Posted May 27, 2016 It`s a young stork. Doesn`t look very happy, hope it recovered OK. It is a White-Breasted Water Hen for sure.

Skeptic7 Posted May 27, 2016 Posted May 27, 2016 Common name:White-breasted Waterhen Scientific name: Amaurornis phoenicurus Member of the Rail Family: Rallidae
aslimversgwm Posted May 27, 2016 Posted May 27, 2016 Nice to hear from the birders on here. When is Adrian going to organise another birding trip I wonder? It was great joining like-minded souls on the couple of trips I managed to participate in to Huay Thung Tao lakeside. For those who don't know there is a Bird Watching Group OGA (Outside Group Activity] affiliated to the CM Expat Club.
atyclb Posted May 27, 2016 Posted May 27, 2016 nice beak colors. red/ yellow. reminded me of an old joke. out with your mates you ask them if they know much about birds they reply; no point to your crotch and say "no worries, you can take this for a swallow"
Skeptic7 Posted May 27, 2016 Posted May 27, 2016 If anyone is interested, there is a Birds In Your Garden (yardbird lists, pix and all sorts of bird info, ID and Q&A) thread that can be found in the Forums...Plants Pets and Vets.
