The current "government" is looking to buy billions of $ worth of Tanks, Submarines, Helicopters etc, shame they cant invest in a decent fleet of public buses, if they had no military hardware and did get invaded!!! There would probably be less loss of life than there is weekly on the roads!

They just never learn do they. Week in and week out it's the same old story and the Man with supreme power over all Thai's just stands by and does nothing whatsoever about the continuing carnage. SHAME ON YOU PRAYUTH....and all the useless Morons that are your aides.

RIP those lost and hopes of a speedy recovery and adequate compensation for the injured. May the cowardly scumbag driver burn in hell !

Those "people" dont consider people who have to use buses as people, hence the WDGAF attitude.

I'm not exactly the current govts biggest fan, but they can't really be held responsible for this.

I'm putting the blame on a lack of condom usage, no respectable education system, money over morals mentality and no rule of law. Yes, in that order!

You forgot face & thainess (in general) and inborn hubris in male drivers...especially the ones with 1 long fingernail (u know the type??!!)

Its typical for banana republics ? ... Soon Lord Uncle will crown himself to emperor or something like that 555

One day the Thais will be fed up with lack of law enforcement, blatant corruption and feudalism. Trust me. Looking fwd!

Runaway bus? Nah, that bus ain't go nowhere nohow. Runaway driver? But of course.

They should make government ministers take buses like this one when going to another town.... but then again "they" is "them"

Every single Govt, past and present, is responsible for the carnage on Thai roads for failing to ensure rules that are already in place are enforced.

That the collective will of those in a position of power to actually have some influence on the needless waste of life appears not to exist shows they bear a huge responsibility for what takes place every single day.

Unless all government workers/officials are forced to take these buses for all their official business travels, nothing will ever be done about this matter. Only if they started to lose some of their own from crashes like this one would they ever think to enforce the existing laws or have better laws in place !! another words they don't give a shit about the poor or tourists that use these buses. It's sickening to think the government/officials doesn't give a shit about you or your loved one's "Just Crack On"

If the "government" cannot be held responsible who is responsible for setting rules and regulations? every-time you drive anywhere in this country you come across these idiots swerving all over the road, when they have to leave the fast lane as someone has the cheek to hold them up.sad.png

The minister for transport? is there one here, the whole department is a bloody disgrace! bah.gif

The rules and regulations are in place. Is it not the job of the BIB/local authorities/inspectors to enforce them?

And does not the govt have the responsibility of ensuring that the BIB/local authorities do their job? The buck stops at the top.

Understanding their role as a coach driver,

at some stage in the future has to be taught,

until then all who travel by coach, bus are at the mercy

of incompetent drivers , owners, and the department of motor vehicle / government laws of the land,

Maybe when the total gets to 10,000 killed in one year they may decide to do something.

Shame and sham on LOS

Sadly the number is way over 10,000 a year already!

I have already answered this point in another post.

I am getting tired of these chicken sheets that run away. They can't drive worth sheet. Somebody needs get some balls and stop these morons from driving. They are killing people and should be accountable. Don't give me the brake failure thing...give safety checks to the busses and cars. If they fail take them off the road. A safety check should be done every year. And drug alcohol test should be manatory. This is a just another smear on the culture that wants to attract tourist to this country. Somebody needs to step up to the plate and stop this bs.

They should also keep bus companies responsible for their buses, how they are maintained. Sure the driver is responsible here too (mainly) but companies should spend more on maintenance of their buses.

Maintenance costs money and that is a big no no

The main reason is that the Thai's know there is no real punishment for anything they do, so the run from the scene then turn them self into the police and give a lame excuse. That is it. No consequences so they dont bother.

If worked in a petroleum chemical plant and didn't do maintenance and caused deaths from not following due diligence you be held accountable. The same should hold true to these bus..vans etc.

A double decker bus accident which killed a bunch of school kids happened on that very same road, I think in 2013.

The Government at that time swore they would ban double decker buses, since then there have been numerous accidents and fatalities, and the same thing comes out all the time we will stop bus companies using/ commissioning new dd buses. We will test dd buses for stability and roadworthiness and take the faulty ones off the road, and what happens? absolutely sweet FA. The bus operators may be a bunch of irresponsible cowboys, but they are more organised cowboys than this or the previous government and they know how to fight their corner.

The reputable bus companies here (and there are a few, such as Montri) don't use that type of bus, and they don't employ drivers who are likely to either cause accidents or flee the scene if they were to be involved in one.

it is truly amazing that they all run away and let the passengers fend for themselves, shocking , it reminds me of the captain of the costa concordia in italy, it just boggles my mind.

im a professional driver, and im appauled to see the way they drive, i just watched a clip of the crash in wich a truck slammed into some motorbikes killing 1, and he also slipped away un noticed. it very scary. dont watch the clip if u are easily offended, it is horendous, he must have been doing 100km/h in a big truck.

I saw that video, and actually the motorcycle drifted into the passing lorry as the bike overtook a van. Nothing to do with the truck driver who didn't slam into anything. It was a glancing blow caused by the bike driver not looking behind before overtaking. You know, like they always do.

What a load of shit and excuses, You can use you're brakes (if they work) than it doesn't matter if you have gears or clutch,,,,Utter Bullshit,,,,

until the brake fluid starts boiling then you have no brakes which is why you shift into a low gear when going down steep hills, of course if you don't have a working gear box......

What you talking about. In US montain areas they have off gravel..sand areas to stop a truck. Down shifting is standard to slowing down a heavy truck. You can't just rely on brakes to stop you on a steep incline.

Yes they most certainly do SHARE responsibility for this weekly headline, but by far the most who are responsible are the transport companies them selves

The junta have article 44 that has been invoked many many time for some could say political advantages, why not use it for the safety of people, every driver breath and swab tested every time they drive. and made responsible for driver misconduct.

Possibly the vast increase in spending is a big bluff, have lots and lots and lots of goodies to frighten any likely invaders so they don't invade, this ensures that LOS doesn't get its a-rse drilled, reamed and countersunk.

Is it not the job of the relevant "dpartments" to ensure that the local authorities enforce the rules and regulation! Obviously they don't!

The enforcement of the rules at the local level should be the duty of the local officials. If they are not doing their job then it goes higher. This incident may cause an investigation into the local authorities by the govt, but it is ridiculous to blame the current govt for this incident.

How many more accidents need to occur before the government should take action?

I can't believe that anyone could excuse ANY (not just the current) govt for the lack of action that results in daily carnage on Thai roads.

What accidents, do you really think the governments of Thailand ever have the time to get their collective snouts out of the trough to be bothered with such mundane nonsense as bus crashes, road deaths and run-away drivers.

I doubt that Prayuth and his mob of rich monkeys have ever ridden in a bus in their lives, so why would they bother about safety.

A 1 am drive from Bangkok to Hua Hin last night had me see 1 double truck lorry with NO rear lights at all about 10 cars in the outside lane doing about 90kph and all other lanes totally empty as far as the eye could see, 2 motorbikes with no tail lights one other bike who just had his rear indicator on as he knew he had no lights, 3 cars driving with lights on hi beam ( probably dont even know what the switch does) one cut in half dog about 4 lorries swerving into another lane for no reason possibly asleep/drunk or on the phone but alas no upturned vehicles this time, there's usually at least one, one scooter in the middle lane when the inside lane was devoid of anything. I travel at night as its actually safer due to traffic volume , well at least theres more room to avoid the winkers . I spent most of the entire trip on the inside lane it was that quiet.
