SURAT THANI: -- Surat police arrested three men for transporting nearly 90,000 Ya Ba tablets from Bangkok down South.

The mules - paid 50,000 baht for taking the cargo - said orders for the delivery had come by phone from inside a prison reported Daily New.

Manaphee Sulong, 49, Saiful Baharijedo,28, and Ruslan Ladeng, 38 were on their way in two vehicles towards the province of Narathiwat in the far south when the lead vehicle on lookout patrol was stopped.

Police at the Surat checkpoint interviewed Manaphee and Saiful whose stories didn't match and searched their Mitsubishi Lancer but found nothing incriminating. However, Manaphee soon spilled the beans saying that a follow up Honda car was transporting the drugs.

At 8.30 am this second car came to the checkpoint and 89,600 Ya B pills were found concealed in a door panel. Both vehicles had Bangkok license plates.

Police understand that the orders for the delivery came from inside a prison. The standard of concealment in the Honda was very good and police suspect that this vehicle had been used to transport drugs many times before.

The three suspects were detained awaiting charges.

Of course, only the drug mules and maybe a few prison inmates will ever be prosecuted.

Several layers of onion skin will protect those at the top end of the syndicate.

Manaphee will soon be nursing his bruised nuts

He'll be lucky if he can find them.

Can't imagine the cops would honestly tell the baddies he's the one who ratted. I'd hope they named him because he didn't cooperate. Still, dirty pool...

Police are always arresting the mules transporting drugs (usually from North to South). Isn't it time to make a concerted effort to cut off the supply of drugs ? If most are coming from Myanmar they are coming over the border and the new government there might be more willing to take action although I suspect the manufacturers are protected by the Military there. If the penalties for transporting drugs were increased I think some would think twice before getting involved.
