Brer Fox Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 What about discipline and tougher regulations for cowboy tourist operators? Particularly those engaged in waterborne and highway tourist transportation. In case they don't know it but "smearing the image of Thailand as a peaceful tourist destination" is a consequence of previous inaction by the same group of people meeting up, glad handing each other and sitting down to re-discuss the problem yet again while enjoying another nice lunch and refreshments. Anyway vested interests will make sure the best intentions and outcomes of the meeting will amount to nothing.

One incident that didn't even take place on Phuket. What about the scores of others in the past year?
clockman Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 Plenty of medals to show off, i wonder which battle they won them in?
waldroj Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 Emergency Services Authorities are responsible for formulating contingency plans to minimise the impacts of disasters. In Thailand, the lead agency is the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (http://122.155.1.143/en/service.php). This lot would be stretched to even look after their own interests. Their sole priority would be damage control to limit ‘their’ own reputations, financial losses, and liability.
Brer Fox Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 You wouldn't want to get between the bloke in the front row and the buffet table come lunch time.
Redline Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 Looks like a motivated bunch. Don't forget talk is cheap
ChrisY1 Posted June 26, 2016 Posted June 26, 2016 How can they possibly discuss safety measures, when it's very likely, none have even so much as had any basic OHS training......they as always, work on intuition.
Old Croc Posted June 26, 2016 Posted June 26, 2016 I'm someone who spent a lot of time in my career, avoiding meetings, conferences, talkfests, etc. and if caught in one always battled to keep from nodding off. Therefore I really can't understand the Thai love of such gatherings. It seems any excuse will get them out in numbers in their finery to pose for the cameras in front of the banners, the floral arrangements, and indulge in the free drinks and food. It seems to be all about the process rather than arriving at solutions. Reports and decisions from these meetings rarely follow, it appears to be more about the networking opportunity than anything else.

It's all about being seen to be saying that you are doing something about a problem, but in actual fact, doing nothing about it at all, because you like drinking a lot of "tea."
