hmmmm...an open faced turkey sandwich with gravy and mashed potatoes...at the steam table at Brennan's bar in Berkeley, 'round 1985 with the grumpy chinese serving staff...

(1999 and tutsi sidles up to the bar and there's Jim the favorite bartender: 'say Jim, what's happenin'?' 'well, tutsi!' - and in a blink of an eye a vodka tonic appears, he remembered my drink after 14 years...'what about old so and so and etc?' 'all dead now, our pal Sergio collapsed and died where yer standin' a couple of years back with a glass of Hennessey in his hand, etc...')

ye can't never go back as it disappears as soon as ye leave...

Just had pan fried rosemary chicken breast with potato salad and a jacket spud (coz there wasn't enough salad).

Sorry no photos, all eaten.

So here's some extreme food porn from one end of the spectrum to the other. Veggie dogs for lunch today for me...and some kind of face hugging alien for the GF. Yesterday she tells me she's bored with meat and today she's making pig intestines!  :bah:

Great, one of my favorites, looks a bit dry though. Do you add coconut milk?

if you are eating at the same table you are a hero!

No hero...no way. Am usually quite tolerant with whatever she/anyone eats, but just couldn't "stomach" this one. Had to eat out on the lanai!

pig guts appear frequently upstairs in the thai family kitchen and is a reason that I keep my distance...and I thought: 'this is authentic thai cuisine, how come they don't serve it in thai restaurants in the west?' because they wouldn't dare as it would destroy thai food's rep as being 'lovely exotic asian cuisine'...ditto with gaeng som (excrement in a bowl) and many other things that I know...

'you live in thailand? how lovely with all the wonderful food and etc, etc...' idiots, if they were served real thai food they would run screaming...

instead I retreat to my western kitchen where today I made cabbage salad with 'asian dressing'...

mash garlic and ginger together then put in a large mixing bowl with rice vinegar (makro, regular cheap white vinegar can also be used), soy sauce, sesame oil, vegetable oil, salt, sugar and dried flaked red chile and whisk together and let sit fer awhile...

chop up a medium white cabbage and grate a large carrot...then add to the dressing and mix and refrigerate...

good to have in the morning when ye can defrost a homade chapatti or a flour tortilla and have a salad taco fer brekkie...also good to snack on during the day...

Gaeng som is not bad. For the first time last night had crickets and grubs. Crickets were ok, grubs

You need to wrap a runny fried egg in those if they're for breakfast :-). But they look great.

the best is scrambled eggs with chorizo sausage with fresh corn tortillas and a dollop of salsa...

(and then tutsi weeps with homesickness...I can still taste them, smell them and feel them...all washed down with a bottle of mexican Superior beer...)

more eggs, tortillas and beer and tutsi is then ready to face the day...

need some advice on locally available mushrooms. my supply of good tasting mushrooms from Europe is limited. that's why i tried half a dozen kinds (fresh and dried) locally sold. except for the Nipponese Shit-ake (nomen est omen because they really stink like shit) whatever i tried has zero, zilch, nada taste.

any advice/comments highly appreciated.

and lets not fergit nopalitos with scrambled eggs...I useta get the ones inna jar, a guaranteed aphrodisiac...get outta bed nekkid, whip up the food in the kitchen with tortillas and down it quickly with the previous night's beloved...with the last mouthfuls staring at each others' nekkidness then tumbling back into the bedroom, not to emerge until the afternoon...

'whew, I'm hungry again...' 'dunno, I ain't got no money, do yew?'
