webfact Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 Prepare for traffic jam, flyover to Don Mueang airport to be reconstructedBy Coconuts BangkokPhoto: Terence Ong/ WikipediaBANGKOK: -- The entrance section of the flyover that leads directly into Don Mueang International Airport will be removed so that the Vibhavadi Rangsit Road below can be expanded. The Highways Department will relocate the entrance section by demolishing about half of the bridge so that the new construction no longer blocks two lanes of Vibhavadi Rangsit Road. Moving the Don Mueang flyover will enable officials to expand the road from two to four lanes and ease the traffic in the area.Full story: http://bangkok.coconuts.co/2016/06/30/prepare-traffic-jam-flyover-don-mueang-airport-be-reconstructed-- Coconuts Bangkok 2016-06-30
Eric Loh Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 Excellent news. The bottleneck traffic jam is daily and even stretch into the night and force motorists to use the very expensive toll way.
Redline Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 Flyover=elevated roadway? If you are flying, you don't need a road?
snooky Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 Hmmm - Assuming (dangerous word here) they are talking about the flyover from the northbound traffic lanes on Rangsit, has anyone thought of putting up a temporary flyover/roadway into the airport or will traffic have to go several KM north to make a U-Turn and return to the airport?? Doubt very much this entered the planners minds.
snooky Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 Hmmmm - Assuming (dangerous word here) they are talking about the flyover coming from the northbound lanes of Rangsit - has anyone thought of erecting a temporary roadway/flover to get into the airport or must all traffic go several KM's past the airport, find a U-Turn and return. Doubt any of the planners thought of that..

Doubt any of the planners thought of that.. You still have 2 other options. 1. Use the elevated expressway exit into DM. They will still probably charge u. 2. Use the entry bridge to the old domestic terminal & just continue straight on to the Terminals.
billd766 Posted July 2, 2016 Posted July 2, 2016 I can remember working night shifts on the Amari Airport hotel in 1993, leaving around 6am and getting to my hotel on Sukhumvit soi 11 Via the AIS office on Petchburi road around 9 or 10 am. That was when they were building the express way and I vaguely remember them working on the Hopewell project as well. It was a nightmare travelling along the Vibvadhi/Rangsit road in those days. Actually thinking about it, it was more a daymare, but as I had a driver I could get some sleep on the way back
