PM warns he may publicly announce names of escaping wrongdoers who harm the country

BANGKOK: Thai people who escaped abroad and harmed the country will have their names announced publicly in nation-wide radio and TV broadcast, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha warned.

In his weekly “Returning Happiness to the People” speech on Friday, the prime minister also asked Thai people abroad and in Thailand to keep a close watch on these people.

He did not give any hints about who they are but said that he believed these fugitives would never return to Thailand and Thai people here would not allow them to return either.

“I think Thai people cannot accept these elements. There are several of them. One day, I will announce their names on TV,” said the prime minister, adding that some of them escaped for ridiculous reasons.

Without mentioning the name, he pointed out that, as a matter of fact, there is just one person who has been behind all the attempts to harm Thailand.

The prime minister made it clear that he is willing to talk with all parties concerned in order to find a solution to the country’s problems but with one condition that they must not “help a wrongdoer who defied the law”.

Making a coup against the state is a crime. So Dear general, you are the very first wrong doer .I don't see any crime bigger than that one.

Bogeyman time again ?

On a more mundane level concerning those who have escaped to avoid justice for ' ordinary ' crime has he ever thought of actually trying extradition instead of all the ' hunt to the ends of the earth ' hot air that officialdom spouts and does nothing else ?

One proviso though, forget extradition for LM, it just won't work.

Name and shame policy, it might work as Thais are concern of loss of face syndrome,

loss of face in the Thai society is a big thing, and has caused many people to act to the extreme of being

insulted or belittled.... so go ahead PM and see what will happened.....

Yes, good idea.

Now let's see if he'll announce the names of all the people, government officials, military, blah, blah who are still in the country and have been - apparently - investigated, charged with trafficking and corruption and who have their court cases pending.

Now that really would show us that the buffoon in chief is serious. Well, a little, anyway.

Looks like you've rained on his parade ! gigglem.gif

I was imagining him working up to a Friday Night Follies Special complete with all the much loved special noises when, to the accompaniment to a drum roll, he says that dreaded one name and such would be the effect that by 0900 he would have removed all potential problems.

Classic double-talk reported by the broadcaster we can trust. The guys at NNT must be fuming that they didn’t get in first!

Here, we have Thai PBS telling us that Junta-head, “… is willing to talk with all parties concerned in order to find a solution to the country’s problems …”. Yet, elsewhere (also on ThaiVisa), it is saying that he, “…shot down any proposal for sweeping amnesty for the sake of national reconciliation…”.

The latter report also quotes him as saying, “… that enforcement of the law and obeying the law by all parties concerned must come first…”!

As far as this post is concerned, Thai people already know the long (and growing) list of names of their countrymen (and women) that clearly have not obeyed the law. Some of these miscreants escape prosecution by fleeing the country, while the more audacious of them incredulously remain free in Thailand because of pathetic law enforcement, and manipulation of a weak and arguably-corrupt and bias legal system.

These names (that junta-head threatens to expose) have been provided to the people through the independent Thai news media – the very sources that junta-head now seeks to suppress with despotic fervour.

Sounds like junta-head wants to take on an additional roll, something akin to a schoolgirl gossip. Trouble is (for him), no one likes a tattle-tale!

What ever.....if these people are named, it will certainly be selective and generally enemies of his......as for escaping military personel.....their names would never be publicised.

I didn't know he was a member.555

Why all the fan fare , just do it Freddy , why would anyone outside of bledin Thailand including their expats care about what Prayut - O has to say , they are all out there having a good time in Democracies that would completely outsmart, out gun and outstrip anything Thailand has to offer , a reality check wouldn't do any harm.....................................coffee1.gif .

Sometimes it pay's to stay mum about such things.

some of them escaped for ridiculous reasons.

Here are some of the reasons:

some of them escaped with the tacit knowledge of the government, some of them escaped with the explicit help from the government, some of them escaped because government agencies are inept/lazy/sleeping/distracted/drunk and mostly not motivated enough.

I agree, these are ridiculous reasons.

If they're already out of the country will they be bothered if their names are announced? Their closest friends and family will already be aware of this. What does the PM expect? Thai junta supporting lynch mobs to seek them out?

Posted

Name the names but, include a substantial bounty for their return to Thailand - - dead or alive, makes bugger all difference at the end of the day.

So...he'll only talk to people who won't talk to him?

What the hell has people dying got to do with anything?

I am not sure if you really want to follow this route of people dying when we are essentially talking about the military, with their track record!cheesy.gif

If only Prayut listened to himself:

"I am sick of seeing my face on television."

Serach TV for article titled Prayut Threatens to Stay at Helm.
