I am new to TV forum so this may appear to be a duplicate post. I would like to know about the price and availability of insulin and test strips, particularly in Phuket. I use Humalog and Lantus pens. I'm willing to consider vials and syringes if there is a significant savings. Any current info would be appreciated.

Vials and syringes are very cheap for Lantus insulin. The pre-filled pens however average aboutBT700 if you buy them at a Chinese pharmacy in Bangkok. Very much more if you get them at a hospital or retail pharmacies like Fascino.
If you know how to use syringe and the vials. that is the way to go it's very much cheaper and you easily can get them at any government hospital for a very reasonable price.

insulin for my Novo Pen and test strips for the 'Performa' Accu-chek tester, both cost 1/2 the price at the Government Hospitals.. or put it another way both items cost twice the price at the pharmacy..

You may have to get the prescription from the Hospital Dr for the 1st time [3 - 450 baht at Government Hospitals] if you have a prescription from you home Country Dr or a copy maybe cheaper, Not 100% sure but think you will still need a prescription.

Thanks, that's great info. Can you tell me what you spend for your supplies?

Test strips for the 'Performa' Accu-chek tester at the Government Hospital [Red Cross Hospital] are 300 baht...... Watson and Boots both just under 600 baht..

My Insulin was 1,900 baht for 8 vials, [they pack them in a box with dry ice, still some ice left when I got home 3 hrs later] I have the 'New' Novo Pen4.

You will have to check as different makes are different prices, for both the test strips and the Insulin. [my old Accu-chek machine the strips are far cheaper, the new one is so much better so don't use the old one anymore]

My local pharmacist informed me that insulin and affiliated hardware are sold over the counter requiring no prescription in Thailand, however I cannot find a pharmacy that carries it. He suggested a hospital visit. He also recommended MetforminΒ claiming it has many useful properties for older people.
