From London, with love: tens of thousands rally against Brexit vote

post-247607-0-48073300-1467506229_thumb.

Tens of thousands of Britons marched across the capital on Saturday (July 2), in protest against their nation’s vote to leave the European Union.

Many were draped in EU flags, bearing slogans such as “I’m with EU” or “Fromage, not Farage.”

London widely opposed a Brexit in last week’s referendum and the vote showed the United Kingdom was all but united on the topic. Most of England and Wales voted to leave the EU, while in Scotland and Northern Ireland, most voters wanted to stay.
“Shame on you”

The outcome of the vote has plunged Britain into political chaos and caused major turbulence on financial markets. The pound has dipped, the Bank of England said the economic outlook was deteriorating and Britain’s credit rating has been downgraded.

Saturday’s protesters were mainly young adults worried about their future, who said the “Leave” campaign was based on lies.

Cries of “shame on you” erupted as the rally halted outside the office of Prime Minister David Cameron, who announced the referendum in 2013.

Cameron, who backed a vote to remain in the EU, said after the result he would step by October – triggering a ruthless battle within the ruling Conservative party to succeed him.

More than 4 million people have signed a petition calling for a second referendum, saying the margin was too tight, with a 51.9 percent vote thrusting the country into the unknown.

Once again, emotionally fragile people, unable to tolerate not getting their own way, huddle together in a mass virtue signalling event, massaging their bruised little egos, hoping that the nasty people will go away.

They are the snowflake generation.

May be they should have all got out of bed, or been bothered to vote in the first place then they might have won

I think it was a case of Brexters thought they wouldn't win but voted that way anyway (because it was their choice), and Remainers thought they would win easily so some didn't bother to vote

I'm a leaver and I didn't vote either.

Don't try to convince anyone the vote would have been different.

So to sum up,

Brexiters are all old, stupid, poorly educated with funny regional accents, but get up early and vote.

Remainers are all young, intelligent, well educated Londoners, but too lazy to ever do anything important like vote.

But Wait!

Typical of the younger generation,if i not get what i want i will throw a tantrum.

Britain was great alone, can be great again.

This can only be achieved with new forceful, honest leaders.

Not pig ...... idiots like Cameron.

A 2nd vote could come along. Don't be so quick to diss the peaceful protestors. It was peaceful protesters against the US war in VN which influenced that war. Initially, powers-that-be were chiding the protesters as a bunch of bedraggled hippies who didn't know how to brush their hair.

I think a 2nd vote would reverse Brexit.

Why stop there, if a second vote doesn't reverse Brexit, let's have a 3rd, 4th, 5th ........

Then if we don't get the right result in the next general election, why not have another one .........

And why just with the people voting, MPs select the wrong PM ...... try again chaps ......

MPs vote the wrong way in parliament ... out you go for another vote.

Maybe Stalin, Mao, Prayut et al had it right all along, have a 'pretend democracy' and let the 'big man' tell everyone how to vote each time.

Almost certainly true, especially once the serious ramifications of an actual Brexit are fully understood.

While I may agree overall, London itself voted to remain.... and while it may not be practical to have an independent London (similar to Singapore) [i.e. access to sea] London's democratic will was to remain. Anything that is divisible through independence is itself divisible in a purely democratic manner only limited by what is and what is not practical.

When was Britain great alone? I seem to remember Britain the Empire, then Britain as part of the EU. I also remember a poll done prior to Margarett Thatcher asking if you were given the chance to stay or move anywhere else in the world.... what would you do... and an astonishing 60% actually answered leave (I remember finding the poll when I was having a discussion about Margaret Thatcher and how I thought that regardless of your political persuasion -- she was needed since the status-quo was not a happy situation). Britain the Empire might have had most of the power reside in Britain, but it definitely was not alone. Assuming the UK does leave the EU fully, this will be the first time in a long time it was truly alone, a shadow of itself.... which for the most part would be more isolated and inward looking than at any time in the past.

Maybe you can approach the US asking to be a commonwealth of it....now wouldn't that be a switch :P

If there were to be a second vote, it would be an utter betrayal of democracy in Britain.

It would simply say that self-appointed elites can overturn the view of a majority vote on a clear issue, and are determined to impose their will on the people, who henceforth have no say.

Then the country really would be finished.

Yes and I think England should have a rematch against Iceland, I'm really not too happy about the result.

Over 53% of English voters chose LEAVE.

That is good enough for me.

I look forward to a long and fruitful relationship with our European neighbours.

Referendum held, results known, "democracy" has spoken, let's get on with it then.

You know the other name for a "non-binding referendum"?

Opinion poll.

Referendum - a general vote by the electorate on a single political question that has been referred to them for a direct decision.

I would be completely willing to back up the referendum result with whatever force was required in the event of non-compliance.

So let's be entirely clear on this, terrorism and insurrection would not be unthinkable.

I lost respect for her as an individual when I saw that she was carrying a sign from the "Socialist Worker" cult. [i am not saying I would lose respect if she were "a socialist" per se; but I don't view Socialist Worker any differently than Church of Scientology.

There has been a direct decision. Legalities of carrying out the decision are a separate issue completely.

It is interesting to note that both campaigns for the most part seem to be hesitant to actually carry out the decision as it was asked and answered.
