Seem to remember hearing the best place is somewhere near the iron bridge....Guitar Man area

Could anyone confirm with name and give directions I can pass to a friend? (i.e. using landmarks anyone can recognise)

Thanks

yes that is the best place, you can call them and find out what time of day is the best rate of exchange for the currency you want to exchange (based on live currency trading on open markets). bring your original passport with you - not a photocopy.

I always found superrich to be the best. Can check the exxhance on their site before you go. No lines and no bs.

I never tried Superrich but the one on Charoen Prathet Rd, just north of the River Market Restaurant gives very good rates....especially compared to the banks. I think it's called Sakol Money Exchange. I'll have to check out Supperrich.

SK almost always has better rates than Super Rich. However if you are buying currencies, sometimes they have stock in currencies that you need when SK doesn't

The largest difference I have seen between SK and SR adds up to about 10 baat per $1,000. One needs to be changing quite the sum for that to add up enough to challenge Chiang Mai traffic. Both business have good service although SK, having been around longer than myself, can have a longer line on occasion.

Relative newcomer but I get the best rates at the one in the "Chinese Street", heading towards the river with Pantip Plaza behind you, pass the Chiang Mai Plaza Hotel then turn immediately right. Small Soi full of Chinese Tea and Herbal products, and one money exchange place. No frills, no fuss, they accept all notes even if theyre a bit creased or slightly damaged, and they give a slightly better rate than the one on Charoen Pratet.

Also, the one on Charoen Pratet has a tendency to reject banknotes which arent pristine and perfect, the Chinese one doesnt in my experience refuse any notes.
