The Thai Obsession With Catsup Is Starting To Disturb Me.

Featured Replies

My in-laws are staying with me for the holidays. I have no problem with this. I like them, they like me........I think, and everyone gets along. They have been here since late October and have gone through two super-sized bottles of Heinz. :o

I watched as perfectly good pizza (high quality too) was covered in heaps ( I didn't know one could heap catsup either) of the red stuff. I can't understand how they taste anything but tomato? Then they have made for themselves noodles covered in catsup, not sauce like the Italians wanted the world to do, but catsup and nothing else. All over the vegies too!

My wife tells me it's an old people thing, because she does not like catsup that much. I knew about this years ago. Everytime they come they go through bottles of the stuff and put it on everything. It's really funny but I just can't get over how they love the stuff, I guess they can't either.

My mrs chucks tommy ketchup all over a roast dinner - whilst the rest of the family pass the gravy :o

That's what I am talking about!! Passing up the most flavorful parts of a meal for catsup?!!! It's not that good. I always thought it was just for french fries, and that only if the fries weren't so good.

My brother used to smother mashed potatoes with the stuff, whereas I would use gravy.

I also cannot fathom why anybody would want to drown everything with just one taste, but, people are people.

Have you ever made a Bloody Mary for them? ..... with loads of Tabasco

I'm sure they would enjoy a bloody mary!

I have tried to tell me Beloved about 200 times that I would rather not destroy my chicken sandwiches, pepper steaks and spaghetti carbonaras with ketchup, but she has yet to comprehend that I might actually be serious about this. :o

Never seen a Thai use catsup when they have access to Si Racha sauce... :o

The ketchup on pizza thing is something I saw a long time ago and will never understand. Now I hear some of you telling of how they are dousing it on mashed potato's and roast too! Uuuugggghhhhh! Gravy all the way baby!!! :o

Catsup? I take it this is ketchup or taomato sace as Brits call it. Its mot just Thais. I lived in a shared house yaers ago. This guy Craig who was from NZ would put ketchup on everything. I mean everything without even tasting first.

Spaghetti- Ok i'll give him that.

Chillie- No need. Tomato based

Indian curry- See chillie. No idea. Just no need. I wouldnt mind. But he never tasted what anyone cooked.

The list goes on.

He just put sauce on for the sake of it.

taomato sace

:D

Oops! Sorry was on the sauce when i typed that. :D Its should have said...... Tomato Sauce.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. :o

I used to eat mash with tomato sauce all the time if gracy was not available. Its nice. Ive never really seen Thai's use tomato sauce alot, I see more sweet chilli sauce though.

Maybe thye using the tomato sauce alot to cover the bad taste of your cooking or your local pizza shops food.

Maybe they are just old and gone alittle batty too

:o I was talking to the mother of a child in my daughters class. she had been to Australia over the long holidays and was moaning about the cost of ketchup. I was aware that if you got a sarnie or a burger you had to pay 30 cents for a sachet of sauce, as we don't normally bother it wasn't a problem for us. she had 4 children and they all clamoured for 5 or 6 sachets. In the end she purchased a super large bottle every couple of days............................ :D

what's all the fuss about catsup?...never seen none around here although we gots plenty of kids running about (I'm a Frenches mustard man meself...)

now, there are plenty of INDUSTRIAL SIZED CONTAINERS OF NAM PLA :o , but that's another topic...
